If it deters griefers indeed working as intended. The only thing I'm worried about is that if the system is too punishing, i won't be able to play as a bounty hunter/wanderer mage.
I had this experience in albion online where bounty hunting was just non existent.
However I have faith in the corruption system, when in its final form it will allow room for banditry and bounty hunting. While deterring griefing and the murderbox situation.
I think Steven has put quite a bit of thought into how to do PvP right and he might have it solved. My PvP experience is with EQ2. At its most popular PvP meant level-locking at a low level and killing new toons as soon as they left the starter area. Running from the safety of a faction city to an encampment of quest givers and back was like playing a pinball game. My toon would be killed 3-4 times, maybe more. It was pure insanity. In that situation the objective really was to kill every toon as many times as possible. I did not enjoy it.
I am looking forward to an intelligent approach to open-world PvP and also wondering what creative ways some players are going to come up with in their quest to achieve a pinball atmosphere.
on a more serious note, if that's the case will have just have to wait how it will turn out. But I am starting to get really curious about how it will turn out, also really interested in seeing how players will try to break the system, and discover flaws and strengths of the system.
I can just Imagine going to a neighboring Node and with an organized Caravan raid or defending a caravan in my own Node.
Or you could be an agent of chaos and just attack both sides with the goal of just getting kills
