A scorpion asks a frog to carry it across a river. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung, but the scorpion argues that if it did so, they would both drown. Considering this, the frog agrees, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When the frog asks the scorpion why, the scorpion replies that it was in its nature to do so.

I find it a little strange that the EU will be the only region not published by IS but I can understand that laws prevented it (if that's what happened. Essentially you're right - but how logical is it to place your right hand in the fire when you already burned your left. Many people here have been burned by my.com and are now being asked to go back. I fully understand their concerns. It's going to be a difficult choice for us to make and if region locking does become a thing then that will complicate matters even more so but it seemed Steven hinted at some good news on that front.
This discussion will go around in circles for many weeks to come I'm sure.
But, that costs money, and i guess it's money Intrepid is not willing to spend for it's EU customer base.
It's trivial to set up a holding company here: There's a few trusted European payment processing companies, there's LOADS of affordable (business wise) datacenters near Frankfurt and Amsterdam to house the servers in. A crew of 10 to 12 people could get the basics done, maybe less.
Keep the customer support in the US: EU people will be more than willing to wait for answers if they actually get good answers. Outsourcing support is *never* a good idea when you've already got in-house facilities set up somewhere.
Yeah, it's an up front cost, but the returns in the long term will be much more substantial. I just can't believe that Intrepid went for the short term financial statement here by outsourcing all of this to another company, let alone one as disreputable as my.com . Thoroughly, thoroughly dissappointed.
They could even have foregone an EU release alltogether and have EU people play in the US: There's nothing stopping them from doing so. They can always open a new datacenter in the EU later.
