It would actually be really cool if we could make maps out of different materials like that ;3
  • Lol glad that this interested some people, i'm all for more additions to the cartography things I might have overlooked or missed.

Find a leatherworker, let him skin a person and use that as parchment ;D
  • You do not need a dead person.  We could tattoo the map on oneself.

This should not be a class. Maps and map creation, adding waypoints, etc, are something that everyone should have access to, kit one class. If u want to make a fancy map of everything, guess what. Within the first 2 weeks of the game some person will already make one for online use, with supporting videos I'm sure. I can see a recon, scout. Not a cartographer. This would add excessive complexity to the game. What if that map is wrong??? I dont need to walk for hours to discover my map is person made and lead me to nothing. Temporary waypoints and shared maps stuff should be accessible as a group and not dictated by 1 crafting player, rather from a leader

How would you change that map after I change the local topography multiple times ?
  • Painfully, AutumnLeaf, very painfully.

    1) Target player
    2) Right-click
    3) Choose “Flay” from the menu
    4) Wait for grisly animation to finish
    5) Cast a Heal spell to replace skin
    6) Apply new tattoo from Cartography window

So what happens when the world changes?  Steven has said that resources will deplete and show up in different places.  What about when a node levels?  It will get bigger, so some things will change.  It would be a fun thing if bosses destroy terrain when they rampage.
They have also already said that you will have to revisit places as the fog of war is always there.  You do not have a magical map that stays updated.
And they are putting in the ability to have rumours and misdirection in game to lure players to bandits.

For example, you may hear a rumor in a tavern that tells you the location of a cave full of weak Kobolds, but this was not accurate as the rumor was started by well-equipped bandits in order to waylay overconfident adventurers.

Thank you for backing my entry before it was waylaid. Sometimes i can't be bothered to find quotes to back up my knowledge.

    Mwuhahahahaha.
