Preventing players from gaming the Corruption System

  • Some people seem to believe in something like "a perfect system" which is literally impossible, the L2 PK system which corruption system is derived from worked amazingly preventing strong players to go around alone to PK anyone on sight, as stronger the player the better gear he will drop if other people catch him and it wasn't even as punishing as the corruption system which even debuffs the player.
And as i said previously To "cheat" system you need certain variables to work in your favor, specially assuming that no other player or even a bounty hunter that can detect you will punish you in the meantime.

It won't pay to be a mindless killer turning corrupted. No PvP Experience, no skill set to level, no trades can be done, no items can be ferreted away, random locational spawns, NPC Guards will kill you. Bounty Hunters will track you. Your prey becomes exponentially tougher the more you kill, you drop items, you gain massive experience debt, you gain a bad reputation because you can't name change, it will be difficult with no fast travel, your mount could be slain, you'd have to trade Certificates for gold without access to trade, no gold drops, your targets don't drop weapons to replace lost weapons, no PvP Armour to gain, you drop certificates in your possession, you won't be able to do meaningful PvP because you'd be handicapped in PvP. You'd have to spend time accruing experience to wipe the experience debt, Military Node assists you in terms of experience debt but this won't apply if you're in a non-Military Node, you can't flag on a Bounty Hunter (Military Node) until a Bounty Hunter flags on you, Bounty Hunters could assess corruption level and simply kill you when they are green and you are red, Bounty Hunters might be more ruthless than a mere ganker.

It will be nice when I can put the theories to test.

    Edit: Perfect perfection is imperfection.

No matter how many times we tell people what the devs plan to do there will always be people who want the game to be played their way

You really think he has a 4000 page plan without a single error or place for improvement in it? There has never been a perfect game and there never will be. Everything always has room for improvement and additionals ideas. The devs can take other view points or not. The forums are a great place for feedback. If they didn't want feedback or think somethings would need to be modidfied/fixed there would be no alpha or beta just a launch

Right now, Nagash, I can imagine a ganker needing a lot of weapons, because if I am their Bounty Hunter, I'll kill them until their weapons run out, then they can't reverse their misfortune and would have to end play on the character. We don't know how the experience debt will relate in terms of the amount of deaths. Someone might have to die to NPC Guards a ton before they are able to replace the weapons. It would so funny to see a corrupted player walking around with no ability to kill anything until corruption is removed.

There is no point in fear or belittling the theories. In my opinion it is one of the severest systems I've come across. Of course, it is theoretical right now, I haven't played the MMO yet.

Edit: Hence why I'm opposed to the OPs request for Timers on Corruption. Would be too much of a boon for the system.

Wow... Having just started following this game with cautious optimism, and the flagging and corruption system being the biggest concern I have, it's really disappointing for my first experience on the forum to be a bunch of 'vets'? dumping all over OPs very reasonable concerns.

How about if you are sick of these posts and can't be bothered contributing in any way other that trying to shut the conversation down.... Just don't post a reply?

I've done a few hours research on the topic and my concerns were still almost identical to OPs. I see dedicated griefers easily figuring out ways to cheese this system because it's what they are good at and I've seen it in every other MMO with a PVP flagging system I've played. Fingers crossed for this one. Time will tell...
