Community focused content creation

Wandering MistWandering Mist Moderator, Member, Founder, Kickstarter, Alpha One
Alright, it's time for some opinions to be thrown down.

I've been dappling in content creation for awhile now (with limited success). Lots of different types of videos but none of them really felt right or worth doing. So now I'm looking to rebrand.

However, since there are so many Ashes of Creation CCs popping up talking about the game, I wanted to do something a bit different - focus on the community.

So I need your help. Would you be interested in videos that focus on community reactions, discussions and the like? What kind of content would you like to see? I have previously done "Ashes forum watch" where I look at some of the threads on the official forums. Should I bring that back?

Let me know what you guys think and any ideas for videos you'd like to see. Any and all suggestions

For me personally, I am honestly not that interested in much content until the game goes live.

Once that does happen though, one thing I'd probably listen to would be a summary of the drama on different servers, as that can be entertaining at times.

That's definitely something I plan to do, depending on how many servers we get given.

Not sure if that name would be better suited to server drama, or to the idea of a summary of threads on these forums.

Would be good for both though.

JK of course, I'm hyped to see at least one other person realizing that there can be more to AoC Content than a 1 hour podcast about a 3 minute class demo

I honestly cannot find your content. Maybe put a small promo link below your signature? (if you're allowed).

I think the Ashes Forum Watch is a good idea - but it might not take off until near launch.
You basically witness everything on the forums - so there are 2 things that you could capitalize on:
    • Forum Highlights - summary of the major discussions happening on the forums. Your audience being people who haven't tuned into the forums in a while / people who don't want to dive into the forums for all the deets. Probably can share notes with whoever writes up a summary of activity on the forums that goes to HQ.
    • Forum Insights - choosing one or two topics and running through the discussion in depth but video/podcast format. Noticing trends in how the forum's opinion is changing. Throwbacks to discussions from the past that might tie in to current discussion.

Other community ideas you could try (in order of increasing difficulty, but also increasingly interesting):
    • Wandering Mist's post of the month award - it can be for the biggest wall of text one month, then next month could be the most jaded award, then the most hyped post of the month after that, etc. (For example I loved it when Nat Tran from Community Channel would finish her videos with "porno music/comment time" and either roast her viewer comments or show the funny ones).
    • Take a random member on the forums. Ask them if they'd like to be on your show, go through their account history and grab one of their best comments and a juicy/embarassing comment. If they agreed, do the standard get-to-know-you stuff (both IRL and Verran questions), then get them to review their best comment and with their embarassing comment: give them a chance to explain themselves. Ask them what their unpopular opinion is - especially if it's AoC related. And then finish up with giving them 5 seconds to say anything they want to people watching (as long as it's PG).
    • Could you do a faceoff between an Intrepid Community member and an AoC player? Have them square off in a little minigame (A Tavern game when the game is up and running!! until then, make do with online games like connect four/dominoes/tetris/etc.) Then do the get-to-know-you stuff, get photos of their childhood for them to talk about etc. Stuff you can do with everyone on webcam (?)

There's a really good opportunity to capitalize on test server information when NDA is released, especially when the persistent test server is released - create a hub for keeping track of Test Server releases and patch changes. Red Mercy did a really good job on that for LoL.

It's difficult for me to tell you what content I'd be interested in. Like I never thought I'd be interested in looking at a bunch of Sperm Whales sleeping, but the Youtube Algorithm convinced me otherwise.
I wish I were deep and tragic
