Scouting

In games such as DAoC, Warhammer Online to name a few, scouting your enemies played a vital role in your guilds success or it's failure. I for one am hoping it will play out the same way in AOC. Scouting Caravans for ambushes , players forming for outside world bosses, large groups of enemies moving towards a castle to prepare the defense.

Often this role is forgotten about, I would like to see this part of the game be a major piece of the strategy of war tactics.

What are your thoughts on scouting and do you believe every guild should have people designated to this role?

Thanks for reading

Scouting was important because spionage wasn't as big a thing as it is nowadays. Most guilds nowadays know the timing of caravans, boss attenpts... before those raids have been formed.

Yeah, I'd love if scouting was impactful!

How did scouting give people advantage in those games? Could they see further? Did you have to station a scout on the ramparts for hours on end?
I wish I were deep and tragic

well in DAoC it was a 3 faction game, so if you were to scout 2 factions fighting, you could hold off yours until the fight would clearly be in your favor then wipe them both. as a example

Being able to flank a group can be a huge advantage, or catching them off guard can win you the fight with less numbers.

It could be my imagination playing tricks - but wasn't it mentioned at one point that there will be a fog of war for players/guilds until they've explored other parts of the world?

Scouting and Scribing could definitely be put to use, in this aspect of the game.

That's very interesting, hopefully we can get some clarification on that. seeing the way travel is to be a large part of the game where people can't instantly appear in area's., scouting will be very valuable. And seeing the size of some of the guilds that will be out there, it would be hard to miss 300 soldiers marching towards a direction.
