Just to rile you up buddy
Wait.
People still play New World?
Yeah, I wouldn't consider that playing it, I would consider that to be work.
With the focus swifting from adventuring to gathering and crafting, as well as daily capped activities, drops and currencies, all mmos rn feel like work. And the worst part is, nearly all of the above mentioned activities are solo.
But, reflecting on NW's launch, what's getting me nervous for Ashes' release is how many people are waiting for a new MMO, how hungry people are. HUGE server queues. Not enough servers at first, and now with all the dissatisfied players the playerbase is going down fast. That's not something new, most MMOs struggled at launch in one way or another and then see their numbers fall over time. But extremes of New World kind of make me worried a bit. New World's design problems had been voiced and were not hidden for anyone following the development with some interest. And yet people hungrily jump in regardless.
AoC, although still far from release, mostly has glowing "reviews" so far. Imagine what Intrepid will have to face if things keep going this way, if the hype train stay on track and delivers the goods. If gamers are as hungry then as they are now, it will be hard to get a smooth launch. A problem many studios would be envious of, sure, but hopefully not too frustrating for the players.
I think that, as we get close to a release, the devs shouldn't be shy about telling what Ashes is about (not that they are at the moment), there won't be a need to cast the net very large to get many many players.
Anyone else getting the same worries?
