I’ll put it plainly. What is the reasoning for not making this an option upon guild creation.
    1.) Guild requires visible skills
2.) Guild does not require visible skills
It adds more to the search for a guild than is necessary, potentially splitting up the player base more than is needed. This should either be a thing, or not be a thing. If there was a mechanical reason for it to exist, then there is reason for it being an option for guilds. However, so far, there is no suggestion of anything mechanical about it.

Without that mechanical reason for it to exist and be a choice guilds can make, all it is, all that is left, is for it to be a preference that causes division.
Information a spy would have than not:
1.) Crafting ability of rival guild. What gear can they make, how equipped are they going to be when we make our move?
2.) Location at any given time (this is the point you retracted when it didn’t suit)
To the first point, this would only be true if all equipment were made in guild. Since this is not even remotely accurate as a statement, there is literally no way a spy can look at what crafters are in a guild to get any kind of idea what kind of equipment the guild as a whole has.

To the second point, I never redacted the notion of location being on the guild page. I said that the discussion as to whether this should be a thing is independent of this discussion, as location of guild members is absolutely a standard in most MMO's. It would be odd to log in to a game and not be able to see where your guild mates are.

It was 100% your mistake if you thought the notion of showing locations of guild members was contingent on crafting class. it is it's own thing that is almost guaranteed to be in Ashes. As an example, if you go back to the original kickstarter page for this game, they list a pile of MMO's that the original staff worked on. Literally every single MMO in that list showed you where your guild mates were on the guild UI.

    Every. Single. One.

That said, they all also showed you crafting information about your guild mates as well.

now that we have the mistaken notion of yours of me pointing out that location of guild members is a different discussion as instead being me redacting the point, lets get on to deconstructing your point.

If I am a spy in your guild, I will already know where your guild is raiding, because I will be raiding with you. I don't need to look and see where everyone is on the guild UI, because everyone is in the raid.

So, what information is there that can be obtained about the raid that I do not already have, considering I am in that raid?

    Tasked with something while raiding:
1.) It stands to reason seeing stats will cultivate a culture where you directly reach out to players and not to a dedicated guild channel. For someone who’s such a proponent for guild cooperation that seems like a strange one to fight for.
2.) If point 2. of spying is incorrect, you won’t be able to see if people are busy or not. Bit of a paradox there
My argument is and has always been for basic information. If you look over just this page, you will see me refer to basic information at least 6 times.

However, since you were CLEARLY mistaken about your second point from the spying angle above, the fact that the basic location of members of your guild will likely be on the guild screen should go a long way to stopping people from asking you while you are raiding.

However, so too should the basic idea that everyone in your guild should know when there is a raid happening. What kind of a guild are you in if people in that guild do not even know when a raid is going on?

Since this game is PvX and not PvE, if the guild is raiding, it will want all available hands present. Even if you are not even max level, you will be wanted. Now, you may not assist, I don't really care about that and it has no bearing on this discussion.

What matters is that if you are in a guild in Ashes, and if your guild is raiding, you WILL know about it.

If you know your guild is raiding, and you send someone a message asking if they can make an item for you, that isn't a result of the guild UI showing crafting classes.

    @Noaani
Just curious - if you joined my guild and had your profession / skill / recipes public for all to see, but in your whole tenure the guild never asked you to make anything, how would you interpret that?

    I wouldn't interpret it.
