I get that games change during development, but with the whole design of Ashes there's just too much stuff they'd need to change if they wanted to start appealing to the same people that whine about pvp.
I'd be surprised too. There's always a risk though, even if only small. But yeah, you give good reason why they shouldn't.
I understand that, but I definitely disagree with it unless/until they tell us the "current" flagging system/PKing rules doesn't work and why.
But, deep down, I already know we'll get EVE Online PvP in Ashes, it's just a matter of time. It's all right and it works but I don't like player segregation.
Open Seas is a permanent auto-flag PvP zone.
I'm Ok with temp auto-flag PvP zones that last a few days. Easy enough to wait for that to return to normal flagging...
Hmmmn. Steven says in the video it's opt-in. I wonder what he thinks opt-in means.
Opt-in is different than auto-flag.
It sounded to me like he explained the same system they use for Caravans, with an Attack/Defend style pop-up in that moment. I've been wondering about this too. A slip up after talking about Caravans for so long, perhaps? Or some kind of system where you have to opt into the area to actually loot or defend from looters? It seems like that could get convoluted. Hoping they clarify.
EvE Online is one of Steven's inspirations. You can see that in that interview where I ask him what games he counts as a murder-box. He says Ashes won't be a murder-box, but... strangely... he can't think of any previous games that he counts as a murder-box. He says he hasn't played any.
When I tell him EvE is a murder-box to me, he says, "EvE is a murder-box if you choose to go to the appropriate sectors, right?"
I reply, "I don't know. I'm staying away from EvE because it's too PvP-centric for me. So that's why I'm asking the question."
Steven is all, "Ah... I see. (Crap! How can I spin my way out of this one!?!)"
I noticed a new trend, where players prefer to say some feature is "horrible" instead of "bad".
The word "murder" should not be used in this context.
The death is greatly shifted away, from what the word is intended to represent. Is better represented in horror games, not in MMOs. Here everybody is teleported to a new place, with fewer things in his inventory.
Trying to attach emotional feelings to such events is manipulative.
Here in this game we have a competition, a fight for resources. If you see it otherwise, it is your problem.
Why this negativity ? This person makes a suggestion. Explain to him in a calm and good-natured manner, why you disagree with him by stating your arguments.
I feel like telling you the same thing: Go cry on the New World forums and on their toxic forum populated by people like you who refuse to dialogue.
I think Steven actually makes a good point here. The highest gear and resources should be kept in areas where PvP is open and free. Ideally you would combine high end PvP, with challenging PvE to gain the top gear. That way, the two camps would have a reason to work together.

Don't play the flower picking inocent role.
The game will restrict such players to safe areas were risk is low.
