Expectations For The Node Showcase

The node system and node showcase are perhaps the most important to Ashes Of Creation. It has to be just right as far as marketing being that it’s perhaps the most unique things in this mmo already full of innovation. This is actually why I was actually happy and even more excited when the nodes showcase wasn’t last month as originally thought/planned.
That being said. What are you looking forward to the most with nodes?
What node type are you wanting the most in depth look at?
What are your expectations?

For me… I’m expecting something great and am excited. I’m mostly excited to see military nodes and exact details on how they will function. Would be nice to see/hear an update on them.
I think a small bonus (not necessary) would be in node apartment housing / instances housing. This will calm casuals who aren’t aware that freeholds aren’t the only form of available housing if that was their main concern; as I’ve received and seen comments under that impression.
Thank You

I want to see military and religious node and their bonuses as well @_@
I'm interested in the augments and stuff you can get from them, and what else can you get in the military node, other than becoming a bounty hunter

Yea I’d really love to see the process in action of selecting a military node mayor. Even in slideshow format to be honest I suppose. Seems quite intricate and tough to implement

i like how the developers listen to feedback while working on their vision.

It's a cop out for a negative, but any one of the systems could be a positive or a negative depending on how they're employed. I.e. the corruption system not having enough risk attached to it. We'll know more during A-2 and beta for me to give a better answer then.

I expect to only see 1 node type at Town stage. I hope we see more node types up to City stage. Highly doubt we'll see Metro.

My thoughts too. Stage 3 tops. But hopefully the slideshow is super detailed before the gameplay. (going to assume a slideshow is necessary for this)

I’d like to see the effects that a growing node has on its surroundings like dungeons, mobs, roads, NPCs, etc.

I’d also like more information on node sieges. We have very little info on them right now. Basic stuff like how many people can participate in a node siege? Steven has said the person who lays down the siege scroll can’t stop people from participating in the attack. Does this mean it’s an unlimited amount? If it’s not an unlimited amount, why would I bother putting in all the work for a siege scroll but not get to choose who’s with me on the attack? If I can’t get my boys in the war with me, that’s a hard pass.

Also, I’d like to see scoreboards from the node sieges as well. I know Else likes the numbers. I’m somewhat of a numbers guy myself. New World didn’t have great scoreboards after their wars and it caused a lot of people to stat pad very basic things (total damage/heals). I hope we can get more in depth metrics (like time on point). Scoreboards will likely be a thing though because Steven said that maybe the “top participants” would have priority access to the node ruins to pillage. I assume that will be tracked by some kind of scoreboard.

Edit: For the purpose of the podcast, a very enthusiastic individual replied to this post with some claims not backed by actual information, just speculation framed as fact. Feel free to ignore our conversation. Unless you want to see him DESTROYED BY FACTS AND LOGIC. Haha jk

i think what he means is that everybody who is a citizen of the node that declared war will be able to participate in the war. so if your friends are a citizen of that node, they are automatically participating.

Of all it's capabilities, the node system is arguably the competitive differentiator for Ashes.

So, I'm hoping they can show:
    * Node progression and decay (and some effects)
    * Dynamic impact of a node on ZOI
    * Dynamic impact of player contribution to the node
    * Node influence on NPC / mob behavior

It’s not a worthy node till it’s Tulnar architecture.
  • No expectations. We haven't really seen anything regarding Nodes as they currently stand. I'm looking forward to it, but not sure having any expectations regarding it is useful. Too many folk seem to have expectations, watch an update, then write about disappointment because something didn't match their expectations. I'll see what is shown and provide feedback on what I actually see.

I'm intrigued to see if Intrepid have managed to create some interesting land height. I can't think what the word is...

Some of the most interesting game towns and cities scale upwards (imo) and give me visual awe because of how small you feel in comparison. I think Intrepid has great landscape scaling when you're out exploring but I'm curious to see if they have managed to implement this into nodes.

Among all the other things folks have already discussed ^^

  • I like to hear their explanation on why i should choose this system over the competion? Sell it to me Steven!

    Much love <3

You’re right about defense. It’s different for attack though.

    Per the wiki:
“The player who originally declared the siege cannot exclude anyone from joining the attack.[15]”

On attack, the person who lays down the scroll doesn’t get to set any kind of roster… for now. Seems strange. That’s why I want to get more info on it.

My expectations are on the floor. I think we won't see shit.

What I want to see is Bill and him discussing some design points with Steven, because that's what Jeff did and that's what we need rn.

what I mean is, when you attack, you are part of a node, aka a citizen of the attacking node. so every citizen of that node, which is the attacking node, will automatically be participating in the node war so you cant exclude anyone but it also means that if your friends are citizens of the same node, they will automatically be attacking the node that was declared upon. if they are part of the defending node, then its time to pvp ur friends >:)

meh the direction of the game was already set when jeffrey was there. right now we are just getting content and polishing, not a new direction that needs to re design everything from scratch xD if anything some stuff will be a lil bit tweaked.
  • That’s interesting. I get what you’re saying but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work like that. I haven’t seen anything which suggests that it is the citizens of the defending node vs the citizens of one “attacking node”.

You don’t even need to be a citizen of the defending node to help defend it.

Either way, I hope we get a little more info on node sieges during this livestream.

afaik thats how it is. citizens vs citizens of the warring nodes, and citizen faction takes preference over any other type of faction (guild, party, family, etc) for pvp. so you could be fighting your own guildmates or family members if they are part of the enemy node xd

    first 3 sentences

  • Wars are not sieges.
  • DepravedDepraved Member, Alpha Two
you declare war on a node, then you have to do the node siege to win or lose. the objectives will spawn during prime time, but war can be declared at any time .-.

They should have said something more focussed. There is no way they can cover everything.
I'd like them to go for things that are the most visually impressive and then maybe have other stuff in the form of articles after the stream?

Here are all the subjects they need to cover imo :

    node layouts / building placements
    All races architectures?
All node types political system / unique Building upgrade paths?
    building services
Player housing (houses growing into manors, Inns, appartments)
    Mayor powers?
Actual village, town, city and Metropolis overview?
POI evoluation from node leveling up?
    Node wars
    Node sieges
    Ruins
    Guild Patronage
    Vassal system
    Castle influence

I expect they will only showcase the nodes they have shown so far. Asking for to much information right now will be like trying to read the wiki. It would take a 2 day long video. I think they can go over the baaics and how they function. There will alwayus be distractions in the live stream so I bet only some of a select few questions will be answered there, more maybe in a follow up thread where they type out answers to peoples questions.

Yep, I do think that is planned, if it gets big enough world bosses spawn I think.
