Activity sheet.

FrykmanFrykman Member, Alpha Two
Since most games run battle pass to support their game and to keep peoples interest up in playing the game it would be nice with an free activity sheet since Ashes of Creation run monthly subscribtion and no p2w to keep people wanting to log in in long run like a carrot so to speak. Does not have to be something fancy just a thank you for playing kinda.

I'd prefer if the content spoke for itself, rather than dangling keys in front of children, yelling "look at this shiny loud thing, aren't you happy to see it?!"

I'm with @NiKr on this one. If the game itself can't keep the attention of it's player base, the solution lies in content not coupons and sparkles.

A suggestion like the OP's may well entice some weak willed people to stay in the game longer than they may otherwise have stayed, but that isn't actually a good thing for the game, or those players.

Most players stop logging in as much to a game when they find it less enjoyable than other games. Most MMO developers monitor how often their population logs on, and use it as a metric (one of a few) to work out how well the game is going.

If people continue to log in to the game even when they aren't enjoying it as much, due to mechanics like what the OP is suggesting, then the developers don't see that drop in players logging on due to less enjoyable gameplay, and thus could be years behind in realizing they are going down the wrong path.

    Something like a Season/Battle Pass ?

Because that would be bad, kinda. Everything that resembles a Shop or "payable Item to have something more", ends up being somewhat Soul-annihilating to the Game.

The only thing that You should "pay" - is the Monthly Subscription after buying the Game in general.

Everything else is part of what fxxxed over Retail WoW.
While i think the monthly Trading Post is nice, it is also a bit of FOMO as well.

We need the cool Experience like back then in Classic. The only thing that should matter ingame is Effort and Teamwork.

Obviously, if the devs could provide continual new content, there would be no need for repetitive content.
Also, these tasks provide opportunities and rewards for players who have less than 30 minutes to play.

Counterpoint: MMOs aren’t designed for game sessions of less than 30 min, that’s what Tetris is for. Clearly there are things you can do in shorter sessions, but if it means the Black Spirit inundating me with announcements, coupons, 17 retention bonuses, and little prizes when I enter Verra, I have no interest in Ashes adapting to that length of attention span.

You mean MMORPGs originally weren't designed for game sessions of less than 30 minutes.
A lot has changed since then. Like the phenomenon of Endgame.
Also, as MMORPG players age past 25, many only have time for game sessions that are less than 30 minutes (and you can expect game devs over the age of 30 to empathize).
You can expect something similar to the APOC battle pass in Ashes.
Seems unlikely that IS will be pushing retention extremes, but... we'll see.

but then they cant log in and do whatever they want. they have to do the dailies...doing other things they want to do is also rewarding.

a lot has changed since then. remember those words dygz, they will come back to haunt you in another thread whenever you start talking about how mmorpg have deviated from what they originally were and how that isnt right, now things are worse, etc, etc, etc

Okay lots to read, ofc a activation sheet would mean to be active thats the whole point. Its not something given for free but requires longer or shorter tasks.

And no i think majority of players are not boomers and would not want to play anything remotely close to vanilla or classic wow

I would suggest that anyone that identifies as such is by necessity not.

Identifying youself thusly requires you to at least have the will to self evaluate honestly.

On the other hand, if someone else told you that this was the case, then hey, maybe.

So it's either a chore that has to be done otherwise you're falling behind those who do, or it's a meaningless activity with no reward that'll simply be skipped by people and will have no influence on whether they log into the game daily :)

But again though, the people who like said cosmetics would find this mechanic a shore they have to do in order to get them (especially if there's stuff like daily login chains) and those who don't care about cosmetics won't even look at this feature.

Daily logins "work" because they give you something valuable, so you feel bad when you don't log in every day. It's a preying feature that's meant to, kinda, punish the player for not playing daily.

And if you don't want to have this punishment in the system and don't want to have any login chains - we're simply back to the "game should have good content", which would include quests that give you cool cosmetics. And those quests could have daily resets in them, so that people who're interested in the quest and the cosmetic would have to return to the game at a later point, but they won't be made to do so daily.

So, once again, there's no reason to have daily/login rewards.

So essentially a list of activities to accomplish over a specific period of time for cosmetic rewards?
    achievements with cosmetic rewards?
    or
something more along the lines of a free battle pass for cosmetics?

all similar, yet different ironically lol

So you're advocating for AoC to literally go along with the current MMO philosophy of "cater to everyone". There's a reason so many current MMOs suck. It's because they try to cater to people with 15 minutes a day, to increase potential player pool. It's why so many gamers are dying for an "old school" MMO. They're dying for a game that caters to their "niche", and one of the components of said niche is long gaming sessions.

You underestimate will to have cosmetics, and cosmetics in itself is good to have to have some fashion other than mix of different gear looks

Its not daily login rewards guys, can be things like taking part of siege. Crafting or gathering set amount of items. Just a activity sheet not login sheet. So many ways this can be done it does not have to be the way you think. Like points you get for each activity and adding up enough points you get one step in the activity sheet. Gives people an idea what to strive for in game and same works as a incentive to actually keep playing the game
