My game crashed as I was loading in. When attempting to re launch EAC comes up with CreateFile failed with 32.

I will preface this by stating that I've taken part in MANY AoC spot tests prior to the Alpha 2 launch and have played the game with zero issues, so my issue has started and is persisting as a result of the Alpha 2 launch.

Essentially what happens is when I launch the game, the little splash screen pops up and goes through its stuff, launches the application, and then after a couple seconds of black screen, my PC HARD crashes (turns off), and then reboots. There's no BSOD, and no warning to this crash whatsoever.

The funny thing about this crash is that I've had this EXACT crash happen while playing New World. The same black screen -> reboot behavior. Both games are using Easy Anti Cheat, and I've had issues with EAC in the past with my hardware.

This is essentially blocking me from testing Alpha 2, which is unfortunate.... but it is an Alpha, so it's nothing unexpected. I'd love a response from a dev that implemented the EAC build if possible to get some information about which build they used! Feel free to contact me as well if you'd like more information regarding Event Viewer events or any build information.

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
    Mobo: ASRock x570 Steel Legend
    RAM: 64GB

I wanted to follow this up for any Intrepid employees that may read this. If you google "Easy Anti Cheat PC Crash and Reboot", you will find a lot of information regarding this specific crash. It's usually due to the 5000 series AMD chipset.

I posted this in another forum, but it belongs here, as "anti -cheat" is a primary argument for not supporting linux...

"So, I purchased an alpha key pack many years ago, and one for my wife as well. As of today, (25 Oct alpha test day for the general public) Linux is not supported, and wine will not bridge the gap. the official position of Ashes of Creation Devs was that we are too small a community to support development for Linux. apparently massive budgets like Valheim, Crab Champions, and other big budget AAAAAAAA games were so saturated with cash that they were able to figure it out, but cash strapped ashes was not able to find the budget with my $600, nor the 5000+ people willing to spend $50,000 a month to play natively on linux to take the open source code from proton, and integrate it like the big brain 1000 IQ developers of... *checks notes* wwa... waa... war thunder?"

Anti-cheat is an ineffective, and invasive antiquated tool. there is literally no reason to bar the supportive and wealthy linux gamers from joining your game. $600 deep into a game and I will probably be up all night learning how to hack your game just to play on Linux.

Easy Anti-Cheat will not run on systems that have fully hardened security - I usually will not play any game that will not run - Destiny 2 and a few other low rent games won't run so don't play them..
I did however pay long ago multi bens to get a key.
I was able to Play (bareley long queues kicks relogon since not a streamer for 10 hour on TWITCH most likely) , however once I disabled Kernel Mode Hardare Enforced Stack security..it launches bu t is unsatifactory - please find a better solution Many Titles do quite well withou this limitation. Look forward to continuing . Now to reneable system secrutiy so I can do real world work ... :P

Repeated steps to fix. Still an issue & only an issue with AOC.

Also while you are here, this needs addressing also: https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/comment/478156#Comment_478156

    So Good/Bad News.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2#263msgdesc
Windows 11 2h24 updates KB5044376 and KB5045934 are the cause.
[Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist file (DriverSiPolicy.p7b)] This update adds to the list of drivers that are at risk for Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks.

Only devices with Intel’s Alder Lake+ processors and vPro platform are affected.

So it is something dodgy to do with the AOC launcher & EAC (& some other games). Since it doesn't happen to all games using EAC. But its Microsofts job to fix ~ overall. But Intrepid could of fixed it by using a up to date driver like other games.

So you can disable it in windows security... NOT RECOMMENDED! Or delete the updates: KB5044376 and KB5045934.

Very applauded I had to do someones job for them.

Interesting. I'm using Windows 10 with an AMD Ryzen 5900x, so looks like my specific issue is unrelated to this one.

@Zizzs Did you ever get your issue resolved? I'm having what seems like the same issue, but I'm running Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 5600X, and a 3060ti.
  • ZizzsZizzs Member, Braver of Worlds, Kickstarter, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
@toomanytacos No, I never got it resolved, and I essentially just gave up and put the game down. I have not attempted to launch the game since then, so I have no idea if it's been resolved.

I've read a lot about updating the bios to fix issues such as this for other games, but I personally don't feel that it's my personal responsibility to go through an attempted bios update, this is 100% an EAC issue that can be fixed by the developers, and should be fixed by the developers.
