I started out with a simple goal today. To craft a 2 handed copper sword mostly just to say I did and to check out the mining and smithing system.

All I can say is that I have now wasted 7 hours of my life that I will never get back. after 6 hours I only found 2 copper nodes and mined 7 total copper, it takes 20 to make the sword. I ran all over Gods green acre looking for copper. I then take nearly 10 minutes to turn the copper into fragments just to 20 minutes later to get trained, die and lose 4 of my 7 fragments.

I HATE that random people can just walk by and take my stuff. OR that the game just destroys half my stuff (not sure which don't care)

I just wanted to actually play a little bit because I did pay $125.

Of course. Maybe did you try just playing the actual game and not spending an eternity trying to craft? All the various classes or group up with some randoms and grind stuff?

I've been having good fun the last couple weekends just doing some quests and killing mobs.

OK you had a bad gathering and crafting experience...It is important that you don't quit but try to explain what was wrong and how you feel it could be made better during this Alpha 2 testing phase...

Sayings its bad and leaving will not help make the game better...IF enough players say the same thing and make positive solutions for a better system there's a greater chance of it getting implemented...

Riverlands seems to be a rare metal biome im guessing every biome gonna get a rare material type to promote resource trade between nodes with biomes however problem atm is lack of other nodes when dessert/tropics get expanded i suspect it will help slot just gonna be rough in the meanwhile

Its been pvp since the jump. Having said that, you are smart to just take a break. If a game makes you miserable it's not worth the time.

Maybe it has been since jump. I just don't remember this it was 7 or 8 years ago and I've had a few kids since then.(dont have kids in your late 40's it'll rot your brain} I just remember when I i gave to kickstarter them talking about a return to a more classic mmo experience. Since they kept talking about everquest roots I thought they ment that and not Ultima online (which I also hated)

only 2 metals that seem rare here are copper and zinc which are needed for 1-9 armor and weapon crafting which keeps you from making the next tier. its so rare it's either intended a bug or bad planning to start in a newb area where you cant do newb crafting

You cant walk 4 inches out of the city with out tripping over iron nodes

Ive been on that page as well crafting and professions seem a little rough as well as the quest system. It may be worth to give it a try after everything is ironed out. Making a char on a non pvp centered server. I hope that the finished product has polished some of the issues a little

will there be non pvp servers?

They didn't say anything regarding servers with special rulesets yet. I'd guess the alpha and afterwards beta will help them decide what to launch with.

    No.
There will be no special rule sets. All servers will be the same

Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

From what walking around i have done,

copper and granite is sparse compared to basalt and iron...

To use a WoW comparison it fells like were starting in Timberline Falls instead of Elwynn Forest....
  • PushchaPushcha Member, Founder, Kickstarter, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
seems like the copper and zinc nodes spawn with server reset then once harvested the first time they respawn as tier 2 or 3 then cant be harvested by anyone because they cant get mining to lvl 10

This is the issue, you are trying to treat this like a game rather than alpha testing.

You should write up your experiences and make suggestions for improvement to improve the game (this is the reason for testing) so when it does release, you can take pride in knowing you were partially responsible for some of these improvements.

Umm, that's what the OP was... Feedback on the current state of the game.

Hey, mebbe the devs won't listen to him but all the people in the thread trying to talk the OP down are ignoring the fact that the feedback is based on playing the game. It is patently obvious that the early game crafter experience for metalwork is pretty miserable.
  • caldrincaldrin Member, Alpha Two
    he is not wrong tho..

Even to craft the most basic of items takes so much work.. like to make some basic food takes like 20 different resources just to get the base resources you need to make the food item. You could spend an entire day gathering the stuff you need to make a stack of 10 food..

So yeah its Alpha and hopefully the will look into it a bit... I can understand high end stuff taking a lot to craft but the basics should be pretty easy to get into otherwise it will put a lot of people off like the OP.

Then dont buy an alpha key for an pvx game? It's like buying a pizza and then complaining that it tastes too much of pizza.

why were you running around with your now created fragments in your inventory? Why are you not keeping your horse next to you when you dismount to gather? How did you get trained on when most of the gathering nodes are no where near the heated chokepoints of hotspot farming locations?

I get it. copper should not be this rare. they should fix this, but you certainly didnt make it easy for yourself either.

Copper/Zinc spawns are extremely rare compared to other T1 ressources atm, not sure why or if it's even intended.
  • RedLeader1RedLeader1 Member, Alpha Two
I kinda did the same, but I am thinking that we need to read the focus statements on testing before we sink time into stuff, but I think we all got a jump on crafting and enough feedback for Intrepid to be better next weekend.

Now you have a baseline. When you come back next week, you can see how it has changed, and say which changes were better and which made it worse.

I am sure that a group of developers at Intrepid, just got a huge jump in their workload. They might need a week or two to make a first pass at design improvements, but have faith, these guys are rock stars with huge mansions and multiple trophy wives and/or husbands to support, they will get it done

    This actually belies the reason.
Not everyone can mine iron nodes. There are fewer iron nodes than copper nodes (seriously) it's just that copper nodes are scooped up as soon as they spawn.

I had my fragments with me because I had only started playing on Friday and didn't know where a bank was besides I had just made the shards and was on my way back to town. I was maybe 150 yards out of the north side of the starter area "Lionsomethingorother" on the east side of the road. I had just jumped off my horse to mine something. I wasn't paying close attention and some guy runs up to me and used ranged to aggro 2 or more goblin shammies *BOOM* I get hit with at least 2 poison puddles and died before I could move. I respawn and get back to my body within 35 seconds and I had already been looted.

I re-read the Kickstarter page I donated to, They carefully skirted around actually saying PvP or Player versus player. They said things like**** "If a city is encroaching on your territory, it’s up to you to destroy it. Allies and enemies, friends and foes, these are words determined by you, not by us"****. So yeah, I can see it now but if I had read it more closely then, I wouldn't have supported.

Don't get me wrong. This game looks like it has good bones and will one of the best PvP games We've seen a LOOONG time.

PvP Just isn't for me. I'm a bit of a crafting hoarder and losing my stuff makes me a bit crazy. I also have a mild case of social anxiety so the constant feel of being hunted by people just looking for a way to screw me over for the sheer joy of it stresses me out and is not my idea of a good time.

I have high hopes for this game and really do think it will do amazing.... As Steven has said "This game may not be for you"

Maybe I'll give this game to my son when it releases. He's 12 now he might be 15 or so by then. He likes games where he gets to kill adults and make them cry :)

I also just started friday. trial and error mostly. ive made many mistakes as well. The best thing you could do is join a guild of like-minded players and roam with them to gather. find people that would be willing to group gather, and consolidate materials needed for specific crafts on you or themselves. essentially using the gathering power of a team to feed each process and craft skill faster.

For the most part though, like i said previously you were in a hotspot, so once you get out into the world it will be very rare that you encounter players trying to mess with you. especially in the sense that they train mobs onto you. Still, pvp is possible and worth keeping that horse on the ready at all times.

I disagree, This is Alpha. I was testing the crafting experience. I found the experience Negative. But I am catching on to your Vibe that you think I'm stupid for trying to test the alpha and not play like you would.

I have heard that later on the best gear will be crafted. I spent a full day trying to make 1 sword (and failed). I actually got enough zinc to make some shoulders and got 10% of armor crafting lvl 1. By the way as a metal smith in real life making armor out of zinc is dumb, just saying
If weaponsmith follows the same curve that's 10 swords at over 10 days for me just to get lvl 2. only 8 more levels to go to get to the next tier, which I assume might be iron.

If the copper and zinc levels are as intended, I can only assume that is so that only the most dedicated guilds funneling mats to 1 or 2 players at first to power level them up is what they want. Which once again is just not my thing.

Sadly like I said I'll probably just give my code away to family member or something. Especially since none of my friends from other games who bought into the kickstarter will be playing anyway. We have watched the updates over the last 7 years and have watched slowly become something we weren't interested in. I was the only one in the group willing to give it a quick chance. I might try again in beta who knows.
