PvP only is brain dead and Asmon's video will turn thousands away

First of all PvP servers only is really bad, PvE MMOs always do better, on every private server im part of, the PvE servers are always more popular.
I know you have things in place to stop griefing but it wont work, if you're gamers you know the levels folk will go to in order to grief others.
No one with honour ganks and thats all open world pvp is.
Adding that you lose XP on death you have a system that no one wants.

Asmon video of him being harrased straight out the gate, will turn thousands away, honesntly if i knew nothing about the game and didnt already put hundreds towards (I really need to stop doing that, pantheon rise of the fallen if DOA, im never trying it and now it seems like you will fail me also) If Asmon's video was my first introduction to Ashes id completely avoid it.

Fix this or enjoy a DOA game.

It's pvx, not pvp only.
If you don't know what you're buying, you shouldnt ask to change it to something you would like. Feedback is important, but asking a pvx game to have no pvp component is a bit too much. Maybe that's the issue you have with kickstarter MMOs. First understand what they are and want to be.

It's PvX and I was noticing how many people are forgetting that. Steven was clear about the PvX nature of the game since the very start. It's an important difference from PvP and PvX.

Then you'll be happy after you realize how the game systems work, and intend to work. It punishes griefing to a point that there is little to no point. The systems, node systems and caravans especially, are what encourage spontaneous small or large scale PvP.

I haven't seen an MMO encourage that aspect since maybe sewers in Imperial City expansion of ESO, which was probably the peak of PvP for that game for me. Because it created spontaneous PvP, and you risked losing real gains - not like queueing into a BG, castle siege or something.

Personally, I do not see the problem with PvE servers. However, I think Asmon's video is not such a big deal. Once you're out of the starter zone there is no longer an issue. People do not want to corrupt themselves once they get some gear. So it's a temporary issue. Furthermore, it was not that bad.

what people keep forgetting is that when you sign up to play an open-world pvp game you are consenting to pvp. full stop. barring pvp-free zones like the starter zone and maybe towns (we will see). Players have an intrinsic right to attack you outside of those zones. So you played yourself if you wanted to go into the game and avoid pvp. Someone will eventually set you in their sights, be ready or be the poor sod giving away your hard work.

Asmon knew the game would be like this. Its not his fault that the starter zone can be a gank box, thats on steven and co. But its absolutely on him for not even trying to get friends and fans to group with him for protection when he KNOWS theres a target on his back due to his streaming.

I don't think the game is DoA or anything, but I would vote with both hands for having more PvE oriented ruleset realms alongside for PvP ones.

I absolutely think not having a more PvE-oriented server option would be a big turnoff for that more casual playerbase core that carries MMOs.

This game has a potential to be more than just yet another niche PvP MMO and it would be a shame to see it waste that by excluding what is usually the bulk of MMO playerbase.

i think the AoC ruleset is a nice option to have.

Seriously though. They need to add non-pvp to starter zones and towns. that fixes the asmon issue. if he walks out of those zones and still gets farmed hes an idiot for not getting his rabid fans to group with him and protect him.

which is intended just not realy top be put in game yet, i think i heard it be coming to next weekend test somewhere though

ganking over nothing currently pretty much never happens unless ur a big streamer like asmon due to corruption being so penalising :P
think ive been attacked once so far that wasnt for any reason at all, most of the open world pvp fight have been over mobs spawns not realy randoms ganking somone and if i do get ganked o well shit happens

either way game doesnt work as only PvE was never designed for it and never will be and if u just want a pve experience there plenty of other options out there for you.

Not that I'm really interested in stepping into a debate about PvP vs. PvE, since at it's core it will never be resolved. It's the same argument in almost every game.

However, as a person who has PvPed a time or two, I enjoy it when I'm in the mood. When I'm not and I'm playing a game that has OWpvp, I need to make a decision if I want to do that today...that's all.

BUT, there is a VERY LARGE difference between PVP and ganking/griefing. This is what those arguing for PvP are refusing to acknowledge. NO ONE enjoys being continuously PKed by higher level characters OR large zerging groups of sweaty tryhards living in grandma's basement.

If your PvP group outguns my PvP group, great, nuf said. BUT you and I both know that camping spawn spots, newbie areas, etc., and similar places to simply inflict the max amount of misery on another player is what we're talking about here. This is the real argument. What to do about those players that set out to make other player's experience not-fun. Hence corruption....but, if you read other forum posts, there's crying about that from the SAME people who want to make life miserable for everyone else. NOT real PVP.

I'm amazed at HOW many people, who are testing the servers, have never watched a livestream about the game. ALL of these topics have been discussed in GREAT detail by Steven/Margaret/Guests with respect to their vision and what they want for their mmorpg. PvP is not going anywhere (the whole game is centered around it), there will NOT be separate servers (Steven WANTS CONFLICT - he has said it a thousand times), the corruption system is not leaving (maybe change), none of this is news.

Besides, it's 3 weekends into Alpha II, why are so many panties in a wad? It's like complaining that the food is too salty and you haven't even taken a bite.

Exactly Lughlaoch, these forums are just an echo chamber for the vocal minority of MMO players fighting to have an outlet for there sociopathic/narcissistic tendencies, they cant fathom most people want fair competition and don't get joy or feel the need to make other players mad or sad or quit the game.

streamers will always be sniped, the Devs can add a TOS clause about targeted greifing, easy to see a kill log, and also check if a person was baiting someone to kill them over and over. Most regular players will not get sniped. I could see guilds who get bored or for content decided to PK a whole area. However adding other mechanics to corruption like dropping of storage keys that other can loot and 1 time use on your town storage would be a solution to that.

best fix for a streamer is like all other MMOs, hide your map. also in the end no one really cares, look at EvE you can figure out where people are but streamers do not get sniped that much.

If there was no pvp what would you even do?

- Nodes would max out and have no threat of being toppled
- Caravans would have no risk and be extremely boring time sinks
- No course of action if someone wants your farming spot

This is just the stuff off the top of my head.
There would be so much of their vision they would have to rework to fit PVE servers in and not have them be dysfunctional when compared to PVX.
