Distinction between melee and magic rating/speed, is it worth doing?

I'm really just here to spark a conversation on this. Do you feel good about having to hunt down a specific variant of a weapon just because you are playing a ranger or mage? Its one thing to have some skills that restrict you on weapons but as I understand it you would never build magic rating on a fighter and you would never build physical rating on a mage.

So that leads me to asking why the distinction between the two?

    I think I would rather they add new weapon catagories for Spellbows and spellswords. Physical books are stupid and physical focus just seems like a placeholder until they add dual wielding.
