Just another grind fest?

Tried out the Alpha only to find out that mob grinding is the best way to level up and questing is not even worth doing. Is there any information on if they are going to change this at all? Game seems alright but I don't want to play if it's just going to be a mindless grind fest to max level bashing your head against mobs with 0 reason for questing.

They are going to change it.

There will be many opportunities to get advancement in other ways, but we aren't absolutely sure that these will be Adventuring level ('normal' exp/levels).

The idea is that you will need many other aspects to have a complete functional character, probably (at least some, probably not all) such as Social standing with particular organizations, etc.

There might be some additional quests or stuff related to adventuring level that is related to those, just like how some of the best content for 'just grinding' will be available through building up your Nodes.

Alleged goal is to not have too much grind, though so far it seems kinda doubtful that this will come to pass

There's just not enough quests, and commissions don't fill the gaps since very well. But the quests they have aren't exactly being fed to you at each node, and some require discovery. Tura'Madu and the hourglass necklace quest lines are not obvious at all, whereas Scholar Ra'aqir Stronach, the Zephyr Winds, and all the Warhelm stuff comes from NPCs in starter areas and Miraleth.

I also have no idea how much they are deemphasizing quests right now to get more mechanical gameplay data from players, it of the content teams are working towards expanding the lore for incoming regions before they go back to working on the playable regions. But I'm with you on wanting to see more quests!

    Indeed.

I don't see how the game could have the leveling speed they want to have without having grinding as a major factor.
