Can't restart an abandoned quest.

I was meant to abandon a commision, but accidentally abandoned the second part of the quest "The Tower and The Wolf", which you start by using a quest item. Now I can't start the quest over, because when the quest was abandoned the quest item was deleted. Anyone knows if that's intended?
