Weapon Skill Trees

So after playing since the launch of Alpha 2 I have noticed almost zero change when it comes to weapon skill trees. I believe this is a big mistake if it is kept as the current setup. With how this game has captured the unique customizable play style(play how you want), I feel that Intrepid is missing out on a important aspect of the combat. The skill trees need some love. Is its current setup just a place holder or are they stuck on which direction they want to head?

What I would love to see is a few skills per weapon that are unique to that weapon. Making choosing what weapon you use important to the playstyle you want to play. Right now it feels like you are just choosing based on what gives the best stats.

So lets look at the newest weapon addition to the game Daggers. I would look at scrapping the finisher system, most of the time when using skills you might kill a mob before ever triggering a finisher. Replace the finisher with a skill like Dual slash. instantly triggering what ever passive you have chosen for your weapon(bleed, wound). Then when finishing a auto attack combo have it reduce cooldown on said active skill by a small amount. Have the skill tree further improve upon the skill or skills for that weapon. You could even go as far as augmenting the skill to gain certain aspects from the primary archetype you chose.

This would give that "play as you want" a much more competitive edge. Right now(from what I have seen) most people are playing the same setup as far as weapons. I know one thing that Intrepid has always said is they want us to play how we want to play, forge our own path through the world. I think that this change would aid to that playstyle. I mean who would want a Dagger wielding melee mage that actually has a melee strike?

    It's definitely placeholder, nearly every similar game has better implementations than this, but those implementations are often different.

    They're probably just not ready to solidify theirs yet.

    Oh my yes. Give me a Weapon, rather than a Stat Stick.
