I personally don't like it. Maybe they could add some kind of Casino/minigame system to win stuff in taverns? I think it adds an almost pay to play element(kind of) and they said they weren't fans of rng which I agree with.
Perhaps have both options? You can either buy the specific cosmetic item or you can take a loot box gamble (cosmetic only items) that have the chance to produce another random item resulting in 2 randoms or 3 whichever the model allows and for the specified price.
Loot box gambling is what p2w is all about. You only have to look at ArcheAge to see the horrors that lootboxes wrought upon that game.
If you want to have your customers spend money, only have cosmetics like costumes, mounts skins, etc. People will pay for these and they don't effect anything other than looking badass or sexy.
I agree with the other "NO" voices even if random you go down the slippery slope of P2W for those who don't mind throwing cash at boxes (even if not best of gear).
I do believe that i remember seeing a stream, with Steven throwing a tantrum, about him buying boxes worth up to 300 dollars. For an item that just a few weeks later was released in the cashshop of that particular game.
Aye he did (link above)
Was he talking about a Bjorne mount from ArcheAge?
I would absolutelly hate to see this implemented in AoC. That said, I think we are safe since Steven has expressed that there will be nearly no RNG in the game.
For the love of god and everything I hold dear in life: NO. This is NOT a damn casino and I'm sick and tired of this element which is present in every P2W game out there.
Intrepid have said there will only be cosmetics in the cash shop. If I am going to spend £10 on that cool black and dark green ranger hood, I better get that cool hood. If I get pink cats ears instead I will throwing my mouse, keyboard and tower through my monitor then flying to intrepid studios and trowing my broken monitor through their window...... Or perhaps just not buy any more loot boxes

100% NOooooo! I hate the loot boxes period. Never used them, and I don't pay money for them.
