In here they specifically say there is no combativeness between the religions. That is, between the Seven. So they would have to change the lore at least.

If it’s just a divine node at war with another node then it’s just a regular node war. Sure, they can call it a crusade, but it’s a little wimpy. Targeting a smaller group would be an inquisition. Most likely contained within a divine node. Said inquisition could be called upon for just about anything, including the nonsensical. But it’s more or less intended to root out the “evil”, depending on what the powers that be consider it so. There could also be a form of Jihad or Mission in the original sense of infiltration and conquest of the nonbelievers. Which could be accomplished peacefully or violently according to the virtues of the faith. Crusades against races sounds rather nonsensical, which is why I would put that under an inquisition. So for example, the powers that be among a divine node contend a conspiracy between the Tulnar and the Ancients and therefore issue an inquisition against the Tulnar to put them to the question. Which typically involves torture to acquire a confession. But since the Tulnar aren’t likely to submit, and I don’t think AoC has a torture mechanic, they are instead hunted. The risks of targeting a race, which may represent more than one fifth the population is that you’d have to be one of the five metropolii to have even a remote chance to survive the retaliation. Which is why a node or two would be about the right size to target and have a chance to survive.
