For Braver of Worlds, we get a free freehold right?

How does this work,
Since free-holds are going to be so important once the game comes out, are we starting out with a cool advancement that others can't get for a while?
I mean, we're a big founder so it makes sense. But are we still going to have to do the 'quest' to get a freehold? or from level 1 will we beable to just bee-line it for where we want to live?

I was reading the wiki page for it and I'm still very confused. :)

No, you do not get a free freehold. You have to level 50, complete the quest, and then bid on one that is available in a tier 3 node or higher, then win it, then keep paying the taxes. Steven has come out and said that owning a freehold will be only achieved by the top 10% of players across all playstyles. There are no participation trophies in Ashes, and there is no package sold, KS, Summer, or store that "guarantee" you one. Any skins that you own can be applied to a freehold that you are a family member of. The wiki has extensive information on their plans, so while it is a heavy info drop, if you persist the intention should become clear.

As cool as this sounds and while i am absolutely not against your Hopes and so on,

... ... ... how exactly is that supposed to be able to be realised ingame ?:sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Sadly we're not, haha. We just get a bunch of skins we have no ability to use unless somehow we're lucky and get some of the super sparse and very hard to get free-holds. :/ So Idk, that seems even worse. Paid $500 and I just get skins for something that's almost entirely rng to get because I work too much to be competitive in MMOs anymore.

    So,
I spent $500 and have 3 separate skins in my arsenal for freehold.
But freehold aren't guaranteed, their basically a "you have to get ahead of everyone else and earn one." So why sell skins??? most people won't ever get one that work a full time job?? Their for the top % of each profession for each node. That's PRETTY damn hard for anyone whose working or has families.
Which are realistically the only ones of us who probably bought these packs??
yes, freehold are super strong and op - but 3 skins for something you can't even guarantee having for $500 is kind of REALLY bad. Because we didn't understand that capacity years ago, my friend has the $1000 pack and he also thought we were getting a free-freehold until I just told him. Honestly? I think the lack of clarity upon PURCHASING the packs was insane on that front.

You don't need to own the freehold, you just need to have family level access.

For the most part, freeholds are infrastructure for small groups of players, not individuals.

You and a few friends should be able to get one if you out effort in to it - and if you dontnput effort in to it you can't really complain that you can't use the skin you have for the thing you aren't willing to put effort in to.

The whole "we should have known when we bought it" angle has been hammered out on these forums before. The game is in testing, everything was advertised as being subject to change.

I don't expect you to be a particular fan of that, I am not one either. However, that is just how it is, and us not liking it won't change it.

    @Noaani

I didn't argue it should change,
It's just really... poor? I don't know, it's like... The idea of the freehold is amazing, the depth and diversity of it.
But if it's a severely limited commodity, "being able to afford it." isn't the only issue.
It'll come down to if your guild has more members of a status or rank that are able to achieve it than others...
Furthermore whats to stop guilds from spreading their members out between multiple nodes, leveling up rapidly using tactics and knowledge gained from alpha-beta testing, and then just sweeping to try to claim as many freeholds for their one guild as possible?
Once you own the freehold, its yours until you sell it right?

Theres already guilds talking about the best ways to monopolize information and obtain resources to keep for themselves to prevent others from doing it, if it's capable to be owned by multiple individuals of the same guild - there are definitely guilds that would try it.

It's in the spirit of a game in which it's tough luck buttercup, but it's just not a feels good moment. I'm going to arguably say I wanted the freehold most out of everything.

Even if it's for small groups, with the ability to assign usage and building perms or something, and more to be added there - It's still got the above issues. we already see how fast people rush for things in just these alphas. People will be prepared.

Or until your node gets sieged and destroyed, and your freehold ends up outside the influence range of any other node, and ends up getting wiped and lost.

Yeah, there was a lot of disappointment when it was revealed that the freeholds we'd been looking forwards to for so long wouldn't actually be available to the majority of players. Best thing you can do is to get in testing and give your feedback. It's not set in stone, and Intrepid will consider most feedback.

Technically we paid 500/550$ for the "life time" subscription more than for the freehold (even if I agree that owning a freehold directly when hitting 50 would be nice ; anyway, the account inventory says "freehold item").
