Hello,
I know this sound a bit more like a CS ticket, but I just got banned last night with the reason "used to exploit gameplay during the Ashes of Creation Alpha Two testing phase". While I haven't been that active in the game, you can imagine how I was very surprised to see this email. My first thought was that it's a scam email, but it wasn't.
After investigating a bit the discord, I saw a lot of ppl reporting that they have been banned and the common issue was they all have been using Linux.
While I know the game is not supporting linux officially, this solution feels a bit harsh. If you were to completely restrict the linux community, which I would somehow understand, a warning would've been a nice way to inform players.
I'm posting this here in the hope there can be found a solution for this situation and to let other players state their case. If we can help the developers, providing extra informations or whatever, will gladly do it.

I heard about these reports today, including here on the forums and on reddit. I just tested myself and was able to login on linux (Garuda) without issue. I noticed I didn't have the ban email everyone on linux has been reporting, just logged in and ran around/killed some mobs, and logged out. I'll update if a ban comes my way.
If they're disallowing linux players from playing the game (regardless of support), I'll be getting a full refund for my supporter pack. Hope this isn't the case.
i'm not exatly the fan of the big brother farming me for everything, while i paid for it.
Either when steamOS becomes widely available, or when i upgrade CPUs. (probably amd 10800x3d)

I also use Garuda and so far am not banned. If you do get banned, you probably won't be able to refund because your account needs to be "in good stanting" which wouldn't be the case if you were banned. Either way, saying Linux is unsupported vs Linux is not allowed, are two seperate statements. I purchased the pack with the intent of playing on Linux. If there was any statements about Linux being straight up not allowed, I would have never purchased.
That being said, I saw this coming on the Linux support thread. It's been getting harder and harder to run the game, requiring more workarounds, etc. By the time this game comes out in 3+ years, Linux will most likely be a good chunk of the playerbase. They're are being incredibly dumb by being hostile towards Linux users.
There is also the chance that Linux is getting hit with false positives for some reason, and intrepid just doesn't care to fix it because Linux is "unsupported".
I haven't been following the issue very closely, but given that myself and another are reporting no ban while on Garuda, I do wonder if the issue lies in a package shipped on some other distros, flipping some false alarm. I sincerely hope this gets resolved or addressed despite it being unsupported.
I'm on nobara (fedora based) and have played on linux since day 1 of Alpha 2 without any issue. I know 2 other Arch users, 1 got banned the other didn't, but saw many more reporting it on discord
Livestream is coming soon. Maybe Steven will make a statement. Even if he said to not use Linux, I prefer that to no statement at all.
We wanted to take a moment to clarify a few points raised in this thread. No account actions in Ashes of Creation are automated - all actions are reviewed and verified by our team.
The recent round of account actions was related to systems running the Alpha without a supported version of Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) active. This issue wasn’t tied to any specific operating system.
Ashes of Creation currently supports Windows 10 and 11. Regardless of your setup or operating system, it’s required that a supported version of EAC is running whenever the game is in use.

Thanks for taking the time and actually give use some scope for this issue. I am not sure how this can be possible, since, at least I, have followed the same exact steps as the other members that use linux. You can not login into the game without the EAC active. And especially this part "running the Alpha without a supported version of Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) active".
Again, I do not have anything to hide with my setup or whatever, If i can help the developers with any information to clarify the issue, I will gladly do so.

One of my earlier attempts to get the game running on linux failed to install EAC properly, and whilst the game files installed, when the client went to launch it failed to do so due to missing EAC.
My belief is that whatever process the game is running to detect EAC is misreporting its running status otherwise the game wouldn't have run in the first place.
If there was a method to bypass EAC on both Windows and Linux, wouldn't the prudent step be to reach out to those who have been flagged and known to be active members of the tester community to see how their setup worked? You know... to fix it?

Intrepid stance is ridiculous. The game is indeed failing to run if EAC is not installed, like you said. Meanwhile, I can't log in because I either have a WM Windows service to game, which is not compatible or a Bare metal Linux service, which isn't supported as well, so I refrain from login. Intrepid doesn't care of their players, with a very low budget to put on a rig ? Guys, you know you won't have a rig able to run. Not under 1.5k at cheapest (in CAD) ? I guess they don't care of low budgets players.
Especially with US government tariffs on semiconductors and my currency worth $0.70 for 1 USD ? I will be discarded because I do not have the luck to live in the USA and I don't have the luck to have a good job ? Come on, Intrepid, the plan is to only have elite in your game ?
Also, I never saw anyone using a VM service with the purpose to play games like Shadow or a Linux BM gaming service to cheat. None !. @Vaknar @StevenSharif @MargaretKrohn
I guess I have to go play something else... Clearly, it's a game for the elite. Sad, I had hope in Intrepid and Ashes.
I just hope that thy can find a solution till launch day.

You are too hasty in believing they do not care. We all come with some different requests, they can't work on everything at once. And the truth is, we are a minority, they will not go and just prioritize linux for 50 players at this point in development.
I expect Linux support after launch. I don't know why.
I know Steven didn't shut the door on supporting Linux.
