When i mean huge, i don't mean 4 to 5 feet long swords. i mean 6'5 to 7'5 feet long huge swords, for inspiration, look at the Dragon slayer from berserk

it's true.. the dual dagger have essentially the same range due to the extended force. Video should be time stamped already.
Personally not a fan of it.

I personally am quite satisfied with that decision, I don't like JRPG aesthetics so having neither "cute cat girls" nor ridiculously large weapons seems like good news to me ^^
I'm ok without oversized weapons. Not a fan of dual wielding 2h weapons eithers so I'm glad that is not a thing
Were they undersized? If they were Intrepid could either add more or increase the size. And now I am unsure: Did I say in the past that the mounts weren't undersized? XD
The ones in the caravan demo recently definitely looked like some ponies pulling a tractor trailer lol. But that's another thread Was just being cheeky about the hills some people die on when it comes to high fantasy and realism related to the game design
Weapon size doesn't matter in ashes as shown in the dual dagger demo video posted. "energy" makes up the distance. Weird to me but weapons will have weight classes.. lol. Controversial design in my opinion.
I read about the part with the 3 weight classes for weapons that determine the basic attack patterns and possible movement during those attacks. But I'm not sure if I understand the "energy" part?
You do not go with a dagger onto a battlefield. Dagger is useful as a weapon easy to conceal.
But we are used also to endless number of throwing daggers and arrows. Or arrows changing direction to hit the target...
I posted it earlier. look at the dual dagger part. Length doesn't matter. Daggers have some range essentially.
time stamp 3:50 onwards.

no I meant the energy visually and physically making up the length of the attack lol
If daggers in reality not only are fast weapons but also high damage because... stabbing. But their realistic disadvantages are mainly the range and the lower damage potential compared to swords because there is less material weight behind them. I guess if Intrepid were able to design them that way that would be great.
Though being overly focused on realism will only make the fantasy elements look stupid. There is a balance to strike and not an easy one at that.
huge like deez
Yeah it's not something I like either to be honest. It's similar to how in some video games the ability is the defining factor in the range, so weapon length doesn't matter while using something like a cleave or a whirl wind.. but yeah. They wanted it to be fair for dagger users as weapon speed and haste doesn't really have the role people think it does currently.
I mean, was the sword range the only distance it could hit at, or was that just how he played it and ran right up to it, or it ran up to him?
It's to do with being able to hit targets with player collision. The weapon class/weight just has to do with mobility and "root" motion with inertia. The range of attack regardless of weapon is pretty much the same based on what they've said and shown for melee anyways.
I think it will not be as overly huge as some Weapons from WoW, or even the Dragonslayer from Berserk.
Would be very refreshing to be honest. Always these Swords that are as big as your Character, feel a little bit and forced at times.

....Every Korean MMO player's wet-dream - but then again, how else would you hold a 2-hander, while at-ease?
"I enjoy big swords, so long as it isn’t overly sized to ludicrous proportions. It’s purely subjective but not consistent within our style guide of a higher fidelity of magical realism" - Steven
Still one of the most fun and best dark souls boss fights in my opinion. Hope we can see some weapons like that.
Cant forget about Artorias the Abysswalker.
too many great boss fights
Dont get me wrong i liked it alot! who would use a 2h sword if it werent huge
It's definitely bigger than they were planning in their alpha-one combat demonstration to current. any bigger than that and it's getting outlandish in my opinion. Let's hope we're never allowed to dual wield 2h weapons.
Awwww man. Just watching the stream now. That massive sword is tooooo much.
