  • Alt-itis is real.

I usually stick to one character, but I like to make a few others to use as banks/crafting or to put in an ally guild.
  • I want at least 8 slots so i can do a race/class combo. I wouldnt mind 9 so i can have one of each race. I am hoping IS is generous with us.

  • I am hoping at least 3-4, and they should sell additional character slots. I'm willing to pay if I need more.
  • Since we have 8 base classes and subclasses can probably be changed, 8 will be sufficient for most players, I myself will probably be running around 4 characters maximum, in case any utility feature is really good and can be unlocked early, otherwise 2 characters are fine for me.
  • Being a subscription game I believe it will be either 6 or 8 slots. If you really need more slots that's where the cash shop comes in. Seeing there are still a lot of unknowns with this game as far as game mechanics, game structure, guild structure and politico-economic systems and how they will be structured and interact with players. Some may need to create a character to be head of an alliance as it is done in eve online. But that's just speculation on my part. Hopefully we can get more information in the coming months.

  • as with everything else with AoC most conversation is based on speculation.  While I do not know if this is official, I know that I have seen it mentioned that alts will not be able to share anything, or interact with each other, I also "heard" that each server will have it's own character list for you, so if there is 1 slot available at launch, you "could" have 1 character on every server.
Again, I believe this info came from Discord, and would rather refer people to the google doc collected info document, which I have not finished reading yet.

  • ^ Inspiring :)
  • IMO I think they should go with the number of classes(8 atm)/races(9 atm). Which ever is highest at launch. As a sub game i find that to be very fair. That most generally allows you to have one of each race/class at the same time. I hope to see something like that here

Well, most things can't be shared among alts.
KS and SC items can be moved to any alt.
  • Has there been a confirmation on how many character slots will be available yet? Any official word from the boss man on what the go is?
  • Only one for me too, but I will have multiple accounts so....
  • Steven said there would be many...but no actual number.

Well, that's good enough for me lol thanks
  • I only play one character and master It.
  • 5 slots would be idea for me.
  • I think around 20 per server would be ok for me.
  • im a very focust Player so i think 3 would be enought maybe 2 more then 1 bc sometime you wanna Play in 2 guilds or run with an lower friend without playing an OP highlvl char

They won't make you buy more character slots. Having more that you paid for would definitely fit pay-to-win and the backlash would be strong.

I fail to see how having a lot of character slots becomes pay-to-win. This would be more like having AOC as your second job. The amount of hours you would need to make sure all your characters needs are met would be huge.

If I have more characters than you, that means I can have more crafting specialties than you. Thus allowing me to do more stuff, to make more gold by cutting out the middleman processors and so on. You personally may not see it, but someone with a stupid amount of time available would definitely have an advantage if they had more slots. More characters stationed in different cities allows me to keep tabs on what is going on in nearby markets. Those are just the ones I came up with off the top of my head.

A perfect example is ESO right now. They are running their anniversary event that gives goodie boxes for dailies done. You get 8 characters and can buy another 7 at $15 a pop. The crafting dailies take around 6-7 minutes to do for a set of 6. I currently have 9 characters that take me around an hour to do. 6x9. 45 boxes. The GM of one of my guilds is doing it on 15. 6x15. 90 boxes a day. Over the course of a two week event who is winning the rng game?
  • as many as they allow, also remember multiple servers.
  • 1 for each class :)

    Craft a dungeon!!
So what stops 1 character running dungeons all day long is it still P2W. No its not. The next day this 1 character only runs dungeons 4 times. The following day they have a rest.
Just because someone can do something more then you does not make it pay 2 win
  • What if there is a daily lockout? There is a rare crafting material that I get 8 chances at getting a day vs your 4. I can sell it and make more money. Just because you can't see the possible ways that someone paying for more characters has an advantage over you (definition of p2w) doesn't mean they aren't there and won't be exploited. Simple fact is, they pull some dodgy shit about charging for more character slots, and people are going to rage.

Has ashes explained how they will handle this ? :worried:
This is defs a common issue among mmo's
  • If everyone is allowed to have many slots and some people make several alts and some people choose not to, that is a decision that was consciously made and any advantage to having multiple alts is on the person who choose to not have them.
  • Hahahaha. "Pushing their agenda." We are both saying the same thing. We are going have plenty of slots for alts. I believe that they won't charge for them ever. But somehow this got a bug up your ass and any argument that points out how this is seen as pay-to-win by a large portion of the gaming community has got you going for the "forum troll" moniker. What is next? Going to call me a carebear or a snowflake?
  • If there were to be a daily lockout for harvesting rares AOC developers only need to use the account name to count the harvests and not the character name. Neverwinter nights uses account names (alias's - also used but cannot be changed once set) and not character names to allow users in identifying friends or people who you want to block from seeing them in chat. Its nice since if a friend logs on with a alt you see them online...and it limits alt spy's which I like.
