  • I feel like doing all of the above would be the most advantages thing to do considering all will most like yield valuable profits! So can't wait to grind for this!
  • cant say for sure though, will have to see how the details flush out in the game
  • I'm hoping to be a soldier of fortune and sell my sword to the highest bidder!

It's the same way I treat my body...

How hard will it be to focus in all of them? It'll be quite a monumental task especially if you require social progression to really max out a profession.

The could just be the power gamer in me speaking though. Heh. I'll probably dabble in many but focus in one. Then funnel spare resources to other guildies to focus in their areas of craft... Only after that then I'll work on my alts. Heh.
I can't remember what stream it was in but I believe that it was mentioned you can't focus on all of them unless it was through alts and it's just to encourage meaningful interactions between players. I'll get back to you in that though cos I'm half asleep and about to hit they hay and I might be getting muddles up.

Yep, I remeber the livestream you are talking about. I meant dabble in as many as I can while focusing in 1 main one.
  • I said all of the above but it will depend on the skill trees and mechanics. I've tended toward self-sufficiency in the past. I want a free hold and will pick whatever it takes to support my freehold. My blinking characters, like children, tend to have a mind of there own.

    Self: ah tavern looks good.
Character: gotcha building a lumber mill.
Self: What, I didn't click there.
Character: So what, this is better trust me.
Self: I'll show you, where's the delete button.
Character: Sorry, can't here you. I'm off to gather lumber for my new mill.
Self: Two can play this game, where's that logout button.
Character: You mean that greyed out button in the top left corner? I'll work on fixing it as soon as I finish getting the lumber.

  • One crafter.... depending upon whatever professions there are...
    One gatherer.....

    Then to the altmobile barman!
  • Although I generally enjoy doing the whole crafting process myself, from an economical standpoint the 3 layer crafting system is quite interesting.

First you have the gatherers who go out exploring and sell whatever they find. Everyone will do this to some degree so most common materials will probably be widely available and therefor relatively cheap. The difference between a master gatherer and a normal player will be important, if only master gatherers can aquire rare materials their prices will be higher.

Second you have the processors who will probably focus on buying cheap resources to process so they can make a profit selling refined materials. This profession is more like a trader/merchant than an actually crafter because everything is based on buying and selling with just a conversion step in between.

Third you have the crafters who focus on making (customer) specific items from refined materials. The collected blueprints are the most important factor because crafters need to be able to offer whatever the players want. I expect crafters with rare blueprints will make tons of gold while normal crafters  have a hard time making a decent profit. The problem for crafters is that they have to buy materials so the gatherers and processers have a big influence on the final price.

For guilds it will be a little easier because they only need a couple high level processors and crafters. The rest of the members ideally should be gatherers  so there's a large supply of crafting materials in the guild bank.

From a personal interest I will most likely pick crafting but it might be easier to make a good profit with the other professions.
  • I plan on setting my guild to work early and get us as kitted out as possible

Hmm I'm pretty sure you can't be "all of the above" to a certain extent anyway ^^ some good money to be made in processing then judging by the current % atm ^^ I'll be gathering though - i love being able to recognise plants and veins in rocks - I can spend all day just exploring and helping myself to Mother Earth :3
For sure, can't be master of all.

Crafting's never been my gig, and I like that IS has indicated almost nothing will be soulbound - so I can just make my cash off gathering, and buy the stuff all of you lovely crafters make :)

@Severok good luck! I look forward to tying you to the back of my caravan when I'm done with you :)

Also - jeez, I go away from the forums for one day and @Diura @Kratz are both 5 stars, don't I feel left behind
I'm as amazed as you are, believe me, and @Nagash is also btw. I work Monday to Friday so there's your chance to catch up if you're motivated by such things :)
  • I want to explore and adventure, and I'll be gathering things on the way. Because its relaxing. And suit well an explorer :D
  • I can already see peaceful traders and gatherers hiring ruthless but honorable PvP players to guard them and their caravans from gankers :D It's dangerous to go alone, take this!
  • It's lonely being the only PvE centric person in the poll.    =(
    Hehe...

I wonder if Ashes will break my usual pattern...?  I usually start a game saying "I'm gonna be a super crafter and make tons of looooot!!!!!  Then I get bored with it and stop after about 2-3 months.  If it ends up more interesting than most, I may flip into craft mode...
  • I believe they said that Alchemy will fall under processing, if so that is the route I'm going.
  • @UserarmKevin I think you meant...
"Wonder if i could sell my glorious yellow destrier as a money maker, hmmm"

    Oh, nope you didn't. ;)
  • A hammer's for smashing, not crafting.

Then get me some ore then ^^

I am a sucker for gathering professions :p  There is something cathartic about picking herbs, mining nodes, or chopping trees.
  • I'm gonna focus on crafting mostly, but i'll also be going for items in diffrent dungeons and bosses etc. I really hope that they introduce dungeon/raid exclusive items that you cant craft, but have to obtain on a diverse adventure. That would be so sick. But i'll be a crafter, dependant on what class im going. for example i'd prefer being a blacksmith if i'm gonna use heavy armor and a greatsword.
  • Mainly a blacksmith but you have to try everything

    Not on one character, anyway.

My staff is yours.  That'll be tree fiddy.
  • I think, given enough time, it'd be possible to raise alts up to each of the highest level of whatever; here's hoping this game lasts long enough that I have that time
