We dont have factions but we have countries, think of that as the node system. Each Zone of influence is like a country, everything you do in the area helps build it up and build the economy, the node itself is like the capital city.
In the real world there is war, there is murder, i imagine this is how the system of the game is designed, their own world with some of their own rules in play based off of real life systems.
Nodes and guilds will play a huge part of pvp in this game. Along with PKing, (player killing.) Guilds will also have influence over a node, say that guild starts to develop drama, and splits in two, the people that split from the original guild can then take revenge and attempt to take out the node and the guild castle.
I know personally i would like some instanced battlegrounds, not a ton but maybe a 10v10 20v20 and a 30v30 something along those lines.
You know casuals(and most of the players) not going to spend time into making up groups to attack other groups, so it's easier if they system makes a groups instead of them.
While player driven factions sounds good in theory, in reality, most players aren't interested in politics, or group management(and stuff like that), so it only result in less PvP in overall.
Best would be some factions as default, with the option to leave it(be mercenary) or go to the other(become traitor). This way both the casuals could PvP and the hardcore ones could build their own kingdoms.
Sooo...you think the word faction was first coined for video games???
.Hack//Roots Anime Series
despite how " Cryptic " it may seem , you'll get the idea
The problem is that the "demographic" that you speak of is like less than 5% of the total potential players.
While I like complex games, you should expect low player count in PvP activities with that design.
The thing that you need to do politic in order to PvP already heavily reduce the potential PvP players.
But that's not enough, the potential loses of the PvP (xp/item) also heavily deter players from PvP, not to mention that if you want real FFA PvP then you are punished for it.
You see? There are no faction so you can freely PvP, yet you are punished if you kill someone who doesn't want it. dfq?
IMAO even having two factions would be better than this. That way I could kill 50% of the players freely without any punishment....
The future aren't too bright:
Most player will going to avoid PvP with their main to avoid loses.
The ones who will PvP will hunt in packs, so 1 vs many others to prevent dying.
Most player will be "pls no PvP me" flagged, so corruption guaranteed
Stat lose for FFA kills? yes please...
PK alts and friends/second acc to kill you to "safely" get rid of corruption?
I found this while looking for swords:
My vote is for the sword with a gun... but that's just me.
The fun part is going to be if people will also be willing to write down the history of their server, such as documentations of events, because really-- that is what Ashes is doing-- is allowing us to become the masters of our own "worlds". For better.. Or for worse.
Because while some may desire to play "nice", you will always have those out there to do "wrong"-- and it all comes down to how the community decides to handle it. Like myself as an example? I tend to always be a nice person, until you do something to strike my ire-- and I may not kill you to get back at you-- as I can think of far worse things to strike vengeance... and that-- is what could happen in Ashes.
You could upset someone and instead of striking back in PK, they may decide to create an alt, infilitrate your Guild-- and slowly, over years, bring you down to nothing. The other option is place a hard strike on you, where you can never obtain any new gear or weaponry.
It is going to be fun to watch in the end though, how this all plays out.
It was a novelty forum thread suggestion i made early in the campaign, so feel free to add emphasis to the suggestion.
hey did you actually watch "that" episode i mentioned eariler ? was just curious
