Realistic dark nights, making torch a requirement

  • I would love for the Tulnar to have something unique like heat vision or some form of sonar vision.

Other than that, it will be nice to have all sorts of different options like those mentioned in this thread. I think IS should not feel obligated to make it "balanced" such that each class/race has their own method of navigating the darkness. Just make various options accessible to all would be realistic.

Ehhh maybe now. But I definitely remember elves having infravision. Darkvision was introduced later on. Besides https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/5e_SRD:Elf even in 5e they have darkvision. so Idk where you got that. Or if your not running off DnD junk let me know lol.
LOTR + D&D the old and new testaments of fantasy
Ah so in LOTR it's farsight instead of some form of nightvision? I've always seen elves as just having really keen eyes in general lol.

If they do go a realistic darkness route I surely hope we Tulnar get some way to navigate in the dark... Unless there is a lot of bioluminescence in the underground  That'd be pretty neat if the underground glowed with unique flora and fauna but I'd still like some adapted low light vision a la DnD 3.5 or something. You know short range night sight.

  • Nothing annoys me more in games like darkness. There is nothing cool or intriguing in that you can not see anything. What fool would you choose in a moonless night to a dark forest with a torch.

I see you were not in the woods at night. The worst thing you can do is light a torch. The fire will blind you and you will not see anything around.

I say: No to realistic nights, I want a wonderful moonlight all the time.
    :)

If I remember right, it was 3rd edition where they did away with infravision, instead they replace it with low-light vision (able to see normally in low/almost no light) and Ultravision, which basically is being able to see in pitch black darkness, except for magical darkness.  Ultravision they basically see everything in shades of gray.

I am fairly certain dark elves had infravision in 2nd edition.

As a child, Drizzt was tested by his father for his dexterity. The skill involved flipping a number of coins in the air and catching them in some manner with two hands separately. To facilitate this Drizzt held the coins tight in his hand to transfer some heat and make them more visible in the dark.

They did have infravision up to 2.5 i think. Then it started getting changed over.

I remember everyone except for humans get a little something to see better at night.

Then the drow came with two different visions PLUS faerie fire.

I would love to see something like BDO when it comes to day/night cycles.

When the sky is clear, no clouds, something like this:

When the sky is filled with clouds, denying any light from the moon or when it rains/storms during the night:

You will have to use torches or other light sources when traveling just to not get lost. Or when the night is really dark, you might want to stay in your city and just start crafting since it's dangerous to walk outside without any light source. Or you can choose to stay inside of the city walls and just play parlor games at the local inn. You might earn some in-game money when staking a lot with other players while sitting next to a comfy fireplace and npcs drinking beers while it's really dark outside
  • this is true in bdo. and i wish it could be made not a problem in aoc aswell. but many people can just change their gamma when its to dark. i did in bdo. stops guillie suits. and i can see mobs and people trying to hide in the darkness

It's probably not possible for Intrepid studios to implement a system that will change the gamma to the standard position for everyone when the night time is coming and preventing everyone to change it during the night time. Once day time starts again, the gamma will go back to the position you had selected before the night time started and you will be able to change it again.

But I guess this is not possible.
