Should money have weight?

  • This is just my opinion here but I think some people are trying to push for too much realism into the game while forgetting that it's an mmo, I mean gold is something you get all the time and the very idea that in most games monsters 'drop' items and gold is already fantasy asf so why would you bother putting weight onto something that is usually carried in large quantities ?

Last thing is that all they have to do is create a concept of 'magic cards' which could function like credit cards and can't be used by anyone but the owner, this results in being able to carry all your gold without loosing it, effectively putting us back to square one.
  • They came out early and strong with statements that currency will not be lootable in pvp, so all the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching that has gone on so far is moot.
  • @UnknownSystemError Well that is nice to know, but regardless what they say I will believe it when I see it in game and also on a blog post. They have been silent for quite a while with actually details, which in my opinion is good.

So far from your previous posts and your antagonizing thread  I get the feeling you are a die hard fan with blinders, which is okay. Just like the Trion forums for Rift there is someone that is desperate about a game and wants to really silence discussion in a forum.
  • I normally don't respond to anything you bother to write, but since you burst on the scene a couple weeks back you really don't add anything to the conversation besides speculation and wishlisting. For all the full loot pvp-centric fanbois that love to doom and gloom about how this isn't going to work and they have to change their focus, there are plenty that are willing to wait for the vision they have stated. Per your previous posts, you have zero skin in the game, and I fully expect once you have vented your spleen and realize that not one thing has ever been changed from the beginning mission statement, you will tire and move on to telling the fine people over at Pantheon and Crowfall your vision for the gaming industry. My statements I can back up with actual quotes and livestreams from the developers. You would know this if you had bothered to watch more than one or two. But keep plugging away, some day you might find a home to replace Excel in space.

I don't see why this is a issue to implement considering that they are already forcing people to take risk with the caravan system and you losing your trade goods if it gets raided. I do find it concerning that the majority of players coming from main stream mmo's are the antithesis of the changes that would make mmo's great again.

Because they already have a system in place that you will drop X% of your gatherables when you die.

Having you drop x% of your gold encourages ganking and discourages exploration, makes the game a closed niche and that doesn't make MMOs great again

  • No think it is just an unnecessary layer.  Weightlimit is a good mechanic if implemented properly.  What if you have to have a lot of gold for a transaction like buying a mount or trade with other toon for rare item well.....

Well I find that amusing, as a lot of your posts really don't contribute anything other then regurgitating a bunch of comments and claims that they have yet to put on a blog (which means it can still change). You are correct that I have zero skin, as  I feel like if I did I would be just like you trying to silence critics or any discussion. As for those other games like Camelot UnChained or Crowfall they have already put their vision into code and with actual "blogs" and to be honest can't say I really have a problem with what they have so far :) . As for expectations I will be on here for a while till the game is released and depending on how it is I will give it a try, luckily I am not desperate for this to be successful.

I have watched a few of their live streams, but I am not naive to think that is set in stone. Reminds me of a lot the Star Citizen threads and makes me believe that you probably threw money into that as well as I remember people being just as hostile and defensive as you are now. But it is good to know that from this squabble we can just ignore each other from now on,  as from both of our perceptions we add nothing to the discussion. Lucky for me there is a lot of mmo's out there that can replace excel in space, not really that financially/emotionally vested in video games :D . I will give you the last word.

@Jahlon True, but it really just takes a dump on the pver's does it not? Because if I only pvp and don't do any gathering there isn't much risk for me and so even if you killed me in defense it would not deter me. It doesn't have to be a closed niche unless there isn't any consequences for the actions we take.
  • Personally I thought this sounded great in Black Desert initially, but eventually it became a massive chore.

    Not at all.

I'll play the victim, you play the ganker.

If the only thing you get from killing me is a % of my gatherables, yes its an annoyance but its not game breaking.

So you kill me and you gain corruption and get a little bit of gatherable stuff.

Now you are walking around with this corruption taint on you.   Now, to clear that you have to die.

But now say you have been making an afternoon out of killing PvErs and stealing their stuff.   Now you have a lot of corruption and then Billy Bad Ass White Knight comes along and he smites you.  You are going to drop a % of your gatherables (ironic) but you also have a chance to drop gear and weapons.

The other thing is that it might not be that Billy Bad Ass comes along.  It might just be that another PvPer comes along, but since you've been a bad boy and you have corruption you are at a skill disadvantage

"A player's ability to function in battle is decreased as they gain more and more corruption"

    Now you still die.

Even worse, when you revive, you had so much corruption that you have to die again.  Maybe even 2-3 more times.

I hate ganking, but honestly I really enjoy the corruption idea and think it will make for interesting game play.
  • In BDO money has weight and it is really a hassle.  I would prefer to not have money as a factor in weight management.
  • Lolwut
  • Physical weight? As in can only carry so much until the player is over encumbered? Hell noooo..

I understand the logic of it having weight, as it is another item to be carried around..

But I hate it when necessities limit the player. The same as currency taking up inventory slots, it's just yuck..
