AoC vs Fortnite

in Ashes we can see Mages holding books in their right hand while casting. This reminds me so much of Fortnite- the game I hate. Wouldn't it be better if mages had some kind of magic orbiting their hands instead of holding this book (like in Black Desert Online, for example)? That's my honest opinion. Cheers!

I dont mind the book. However I believe all classes can also use multiple weapons.
I have seen recent videos of the player going from a Wand to a Sword or a Bow to Mace etc....I dont think a Mage will be bound to only use the book.

Anyone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I haven't been  following the AoC news for a while, but I a slowly getting back on track

Here's AoC latest gameplay video and you can notice how they switch between weapons during combat.

  • The title is a bit misleading.

I came here expecting a discussion about Ashes' Battle Royale mode vs Fortinite.

Instead, it's a rant about OP not liking mages to hold spellbooks while casting.

While MMORPGs are fantasy worlds in which anything is possible, some realism is appreciated. I find it more logical for magic users to get their spells from spellbooks instead of being chosen by nature to have the ability to cast magic as they please.

"Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline."
  • I like the book. So your opinion is cancelled by my opinion. Balance to the force is restored. Nothing changes.

I’m not really a mage player but I have to admit that conjuring up some sort of magic in your palms would look awesome @Bluecactus.

to the guys above, OPs entitled to their opinion. And it wasn’t really a “rant” was it.
  • Oh no you did not insult the grimoire

  • If I was going to play a mage I'd prefer the book to a staff. I understand what you're saying but I just don't feel the same. There'll be enough diversity in this game that folks will be able to customise accordingly.

@Kumary Welcome back! Good to see you ;)

    Someone upset the Grimoireaper.
  • *Looks throughout Fortnite*

    *Finds no books*

No books in Fortnite + Books in AoC = Fortnite is NOT AoC #confirmed.

  • I like the book or some kind of focus like a wand or staff as opposed to a subset of the population just having this power in them.
  • Attention-grabbing title for a very minor issue... are you by any chance a journalist?   :D

Back on topic:  the last game I played had books and orbs for the Mage's off-hand focus. Perhaps AoC will have the same. Better yet, maybe AoC will expand upon those options.
  • *walks into the room after seeing the topic scribbled on the easel outside*

    *loudly announces to the room*

It's 2:33 AM and I find myself here... not because I have anything important to add to this topic... but because the title was so ridiculous I just had to know what the comparison was... still lost... continuing on now... good luck with this one...

    * Sips his coffee and slowly backs out of the room*

I like Mages holding a spellbook as a weapon. (Any class can wield any weapon).
I think Orbs are also weapons.

I don't know why spellbooks remind anyone of Fortnite.
Nor why it's a problem if they do remind someone of Fortnite.
  • I prefer a tome of knowledge over some shiny bauble anyday.
  • Well, i'll give ya the necessary time all you book worms need to open it up, pull out yer reading specs glance over the contents page, flick to the appropriate spell, learn thus spell, practice pronunciation of said spell. while you're doing that my Fighter will take a quick nap, maybe have some green tea, do some push ups, catch up on the latest memes and still have time to run you through with his two blades  xD

Maybe ill toss a library card on your corpse for you to use in the afterlife. Or after-afterlife in some cases.  ;)

    Yeah good luck with that

  • I'd like to see it depend on the secondary class.  Book for summoner or a staff for mage, etc.
  • as it stands you can pretty much equip a book to your tank

  • @Nagash Isn't your character from Warhammer 40k? I just wanted to clarify it with you.  Because I read someone talking about you stole the character from WoW. I could of swore I played him in one of the Dawn of War titles.

Nagash is from Warhammer fantasy also known as age of Sigmar. May I ask who said I "stole" the character from WoW?

My guess is that it was some dizzy goofball who thinks everything that looks like a Lich must be Arthas Menethil.

They probably think Tolkien stole Sauron from WoW too.

I just find it funny to compare Warhammer to warcraft

I'm not totally sure,  bud.  But I do remember your character now and you could play him in one of the Dawn of War titles,  I believe the first one.  Necros were a badass army too.
  • @Bluecactus
I understand what you mean - its one of the things that really messes with my brain, i hate it ... but i really think its solely based on the Camera angle

i.e. Camera angle give vibes from WarFrame and/or Fortnite ... but ....
    • whats shown in Alpha 1 Phase 1 is NOT final i.e. Testing Phases
    • Alpha 1 Phase 1 is solely PvP
    • Maybe its trying to mirror the " trend " purposely trying to attract more players
    • Fortnite is trash
So whatever, I'll just hold off my full opinion until after i login for the 1st time
  • Steven, please don't let young or new gamers influence this decision, thanks! I like the book, it takes us back to games like Everquest and Ultima Online.......not Fortnite....
