Offspring/wedding

Many mmorpg's offer wedding system, but thats all. It lacks something, after wedding thr should be honeymoon which will lead to offsprings. An offspring npc would be great(growth type npc). Having your own npc which can run some errands will be great it will save you some gold in hiring npc(from production works to combat). An npc that you can raise and choose its job in the future(merchant, knights etc) which will give you some earnings.

What are your thoughts about this offspring idea?

  • We have Eggs and Animal Husbandry but i'm not one for actual player offspring. Though from an RP standpoint it would be interesting to see someone going on a Revenge Rampage due to the loss of a child after a raid on a Freehold.
  • So you basically wan't too breed little slaves that work for you?
What if the kids don't want to work for you?

What if i don't marry or don't want to have kids? Will i have less money because i have to hire my npcs?
  • No thank you.

you dont want little slaves! little slaves are the best slaves! just ask santa, he knows it.

the offspring part i find a little weird tho, since it would be between players, how would that work? does a baby just randomly appear in your home? do they grow at a rapid rate or you have to deal with a baby for a week+?
  • Its very unlikly that we will see children in a mmo may it be normal npc's or like what yoou said . Cause like 0.000001 % of ppl made some strange vids in games like skyrim and now developers think on their reputation first cause even if its 0.00001 %, bad rumors spread 10 times faster then good ones . Humans are so pathetic -.-

Sad thing i would love to see something like rp marriage with other players and become able to raise a child . Even i i think they should not work for you thats kinda strange . But having them would be max immersion .

Beside that after marriage consequences should be just .. more in general yes . Like sharing the bank, sharing a home, special buffs when fighting together and such things .
  • I thought you meant

    But kids?  Hell no.
  • ehhh no thanks
  • @Augentier lol you didnt get me, ofcourse if its your own npc you will have the option if you want it to run some errands or not.
@skullkid1105 thats why i said growth type npc where you will level it through food, works and battles. From baby to mature one, at baby stage ofcourse you need to feed it to levelup(its level will tell its appearance), in **** stagr you can bring it to battle which will act as support(cheer mom/dad to gives buff).when it became mature you can choose its own class (production, combat or support class) which will help you bigtime.
  • I'm always for additional RPG elements. I don't expect to see what CoE wants to achieve but I would like to be able to have some children NPC at my homestead... I just hope players don't do anything weird.
  • still doesnt explain were the npc is coming from, if two players are having the relationship, you cant just be like "boom baby bitch" and then have to deal with this random ass little person for a couple of weeks.
  • My view on kids

    Wise words.

In regards to the topic I think marriage should stay as an RP element maybe adding something extra while doing something with your spouse but that's it.

Weddings would be really cool. I imagine seeing one happen in a town, could be really awesome to witness. But kids. No!

What you should have said is "Weddings could be really cool." Because you need to realize that we live on planet earth and people will ruin anything they can. Anyone remember that WoW funeral that got crashed? Well, you are opening up a door to give a literal meaning to 'Wedding crashers'. Maybe I am just pessimistic, but I lost faith in humanity when I was 8 years old

Yea. I agree with you, You are pessimistic and lost faith in humanity. Lol
This isnt WoW. Try to imagine what this game can be. If u want a wedding not to be crashed, maybe hold it in a guild hall where entrance is only allowed to those on the list. Bam, fixed...
You do bring up a good point thou, but let's use that information to find a way to have it work in AOC. :)
  • I think this would be stretching the focus of the game a little thin. While it works (and exists) in Chronicles of Elyria, here in AoC it doesn't feel like it would be the right fit.
  • I like the idea of offspring.

Perhaps a requirement of offspring would be that the two parents would each need an open alt spot, and we would end up with a two-account alt that either of the parents could log into and play (not both at the same time, though).  Total number of children could be limited by open alt spots of the parents' accounts and these child characters should not be able to be deleted, so having a child should not be done on a whim.

The child would have some inherited traits of each parent, both visual and race specific.  We will get some odd looking toons after a year or two!  Will the offspring of a dwarf and an orc be called a dork?

The parents might have to hire a NPC to care for the baby while they are out hunting.

Since AoC is a magic world, let's let same sex couple also reproduce.

Question...if two characters marry and one quits the game, after some period of time (may a year or two) will the remaining character be able to re-marry?

Question...will each of the characters on our account be able to marry?  In other words, can alts marry?

    Thanks, TT

  • They could do something like ffxiv's wedding thing where you get a ring and a two seater mount or something. Like, have a big event with a cut scene with people that attend, rent a place etc.
  • This sounds terrible...

Why do you think so? If you don't mind me asking.
  • There shouldn't be any advantage to players getting married, I would see a two person mount as being an advantage if it's the only way to acquire one.

Meh personally I think something small for married players is not a bad idea (like a small buff or something) a mount is obviously out of question since it's not even how you are supposed to acquire mounts.
  • I am tempted to take the thread into the gutter with cracks about mounting after the wedding or exactly what was meant by 'two person mounts' but I won't.

Neither will I mention the other name for a donkey mount or anything about honeymoons.

But crafting a two seated bicycle might be cool.

Wrong era for a bicycle 'w'
  • Two seated farm cart, then...with a little basket to put the dork in.
  • Very short answer would be, this is a bad idea.

Since we got group mounts as part of the kickstarter stretch goals achieved that opened them up for everyone it won't be the only way to acquire it. But I am fully with you on them not giving any advantage beyond cosmetic to marriage. We still are awaiting clarification on how they plan to handle it, along with the mentor system.

Oh, I had forgotten about the group mounts from the kickstarter.

While it's true that it not going to be added to mmos in the next 10year, your reasoning aren't correct.
Even if it would be "bad" rumor (which isn't) it wouldn't actually affect the sales negatively, heck overwatch sold by the hype generated from porn...

Ofc some braindead SJW/feminazi would rage, but they aren't the potential players anyway, so their option is 100% irrelevant.

Marketing nowdays isn't as simply as saying bad things = bad sales, saying good things = good sales. It depends on what the buyers feel is bad, and how is it presented. Bad things sure spread much fast, but if the "bad" thing is actually irrelevant for the players, it equals with free advertisement. Ppls will be curious, and look about the product/try it, and if it ends up being good, they not really going to care about the "bad" stuff.

I not tell them to put thing like that into this game, I just wanted to clear the misunderstanding. Generally gamers have way different meaning of "bad" than the normies do, that's also a reason why the incompetent managers in many game - who never actually played as hardcore - ends up ruining the whole game/it's advertisement.
