Forum inserts line break with formatting?

Starting today, a couple of times when I posted and put text in bold or italics it caused a line break.

Here is a test but it's not happening in this particular post. It's unpredictable. I've never seen this behavior before today.

It does it when I post on my phone (Safari on iPhone) or computer (Edge on Windows 11).

I just wanted to report it, I can't find rhyme or reason for why it happens.

If you hit "quote" for either post you can see that in the quoted text there is no line break in what I posted. So weird.
