Why Does the Mage Have the Fewest Skills?

I was surprised to see that the Mage class has the fewest skills. As someone who enjoys playing as a Mage, this was pretty disappointing. Traditionally, Mages are known for their versatility and wide array of abilities, which makes them one of the most engaging classes to play. The idea of a Mage with a rich variety of spells and skills is central to what makes the class exciting and fun.
I believe many Mage players would agree that having a more expansive skill set would not only make the class more interesting but also align with the expectations of how Mages are typically portrayed in RPGs. Mages should feel powerful and versatile, offering a diverse toolkit to adapt to different situations.
At the very least, I was hoping for more depth in the Mage’s skill tree. I think adding a few more skills or improving the variety would make a big difference for players like me who want that complex and strategic gameplay experience.

Personally - i hope for "Light Spells" one can cast like in dark Caves in Skyrim. . the Game has the Engine for that.

because not all the mage skills are ready o.o
I do believe there was a skill like that in the cheatsheet from the stream.
Mages have more skills in the category of 'Unique but don't have many Variants' whereas Ranger and Cleric, for example, have more Variants.
Not saying you're wrong, just a reminder of how Ashes skilltrees work, since the information in the last LiveStream wasn't presented 'as skilltrees'.
Steven has said that mage, tank, cleric are due for an update. I wouldn't worry.
They will want to add Skill "categories" (similar to Hunts and Marks) - to match what they've done with the more recent Archetypes.
Tell that to the Sweatlords.

The idea according to Intrepid seems to be to have 35-40 skills from which we choose "a couple" to individualize the playstyle of our mage before we even get to augmentation.
The slides given are just what is currently ready to show, and I believe they stated in the stream that they were still working on those. They are more of a teaser to show you what you will see in-game. I would not expect to see any class have an "amount" of skills that is significantly higher or lower than the average by more than a nominal amount.
Even if they don`t change it later on, you will still be able to make some healing spells into dmg spells through the use of secondary archetypes. But it does feel like it should have a few extra offensive spells from the start.
sure it not, my class is better than your class!!!
Remember the max level currently 25, with different specs and path so as not to have all the skills. Bard feels like the only class truly at 25 with full choice - the others feel like they are 'locked in' to one path (except mage which feels like its locked into being a generalist - it needs about double the amount of skills for each element)
They've previously said there'll be 40 skills for each archetype, with players selecting 12-15. this was a long time ago and may have changed.
I very much doubt this is the final version - just enough to be playable from 1-25.
Paper, Healer is Scissor and Tank is Rock i guess. 😅
