You don't like the art by committee approach, with any traditional trope that acts as an anchor being actively subverted? Idk, I enjoyed laughing when I saw the Vaelune and said "self-insert" 😂

    Yes, before looks really better

I agree that the art style is subpar compared to before.
The races page also needs to be reviewed by a copy editor. Misuse of commas and run on sentences everywhere. You don't put a comma before 'and' when there's only two things, and there's a few parts that go "A, B, and C, and D" (two 'and's)
I hope this writer is nowhere near the in game writing.
  • SlipreeSlipree Member, Alpha Two
They all look….how best to put it….

Like they are all going to a fantasy aged fashion show….

I prefer my races a little bit more visceral, especially races like orcs/ beast races. They should NOT look quaffed and primped. Now an elf race, sure, you can make them like that. People who like that kind of thing tend to play those types of races.

You may want to look that up. You absolutely put a comma on, “and”, when there is only two things.

Middle one looks cool as hell though.

Oh there’s a ton of spelling mistakes on some of the alpha two archtype skills if you zoom in and read them on this page. It’s not a big deal but just needs someone combing over it before they post no worries.

Most style guides, including the Chicago Manual of Style, MLA, and APA, recommend against using the Oxford comma in lists with only two items. This is because the absence of the comma does not lead to ambiguity or confusion.

    Examples

Correct: I like food and beer.
Incorrect: I like food, and beer. (unnecessary comma)

The first 3 have ugly hairstyles.
  • I’m going to be honest the art style looks kind of shit and character models. The human looks the best and the elf looks kind of withered like they’re been doing meth. Sorry I had to say it the art style is way too cartoonish compared to other games I’ve seen releasing before this!

2025 soon fix it before it’s DOA.

The 3D models for the races have been solid so far with the visual variety, plus we'll have so many (perhaps too many) sliders and options to fine tune the characters as desired.

The 2D style going on there definitely needs some work for the Renkai orc and the dwarves specifically. Looks way too much like smooth, shaped clay to me. The humans look great tho right now so I'm not sure where that discrepancy in quality came from.
  • I don’t see an issue with it being a woman or what colour their skin pigment is as that’s kind of shallow and hateful. However I do have issues with a game that could look a lot better and the art style, design, animations and character models could definitely be better. Considering the time scale we are going to get this game in it will probably already look somewhat outdated.

I get they’re on a budget plus it’s still only alpha or whatever but I’m just being realistic sometimes it makes me feel like not even bothering with MMO’s anymore. Would have been nice if this game was the space in the market that it’s supposed to be, however sometimes you’ve got to be realistic and bite the bullet.

I’m just going to have to take your word for it and hope for the best. I’ll either play it or I won’t depends how everything turns out, but I’m just kind of tired now of getting my hopes up. All these games with their marketing campaigns that looks or plays nothing like the game. Honestly I’m just bored of all these terrible games at this point it’s like I’m not having fun anymore it sucks but it is what it is.

I can forgive the visuals of the game itself is good and has a solid writing team, but they've gotta steer clear of the clay-like smoothness and the janky animations. I'm hoping we'll see improvements on the animations of big mobs in Alpha2 right around the corner, and I definitely hope these 2D changes remain solely on the website. I don't want a wax figure game avatar.

I just hope someone has told them about it and makes them aware it doesn’t look good at the moment tbh. Hopefully it’s not just people pleasing at the studio like you know how it is when you’re on the payroll you’ll obviously say it looks good. I hate to be negative as well as overly critical but the time-scale doesn’t look great nobody wants to play a cartoonish game that looks like WoW after 2025. I mean lately even New World looks like garbage to me so could be just my perception though I hope I’m wrong in any case it had to be said.

WoW suffers less of the 'outdated' issue because it went so heavy into stylized cartoon looks and proportions as it aged. But it's also.. cartoony and comical proportions in most cases.

I don't think what we've seen of gameplay character models have suffered from cartoony aspects in places other than the scale of spells, which I firmly believe they need to scale back on and rework based on impact.

Bright flashy vfx for a giant fireball that stuns is good.

Bright flashy vfx for your standard mid damage frost bolt is not so good.

Visual clarity is gonna be a focus for me in the UI, quest design, and overall combat readability. And on the character models if they start trending into cartoony visuals beyond the inescapable aspects of some of them just being straight up blue, purple, and green.

Edit: tldr make good and frequent use of all the feedback channels we'll have access to when and if you see something that's visually jarring or seemingly ill-fitting. The testing phases might include playing the game, but the feedback gathering should be what everyone focuses on first

Would be cool to see a broader variation and examples for each race in both male and female versions. Kaelar are supposed to be the closest human equivalent, not necessarily one real life race. So I expect that to be quite broad, especially as they supposedly settled everywhere.

The other races will have more cultural or archetypical associations to we humans so that we can identify with them conceptually to make us want to play them. But I’d expect a bunch of different options for players to choose.

Guess it’s easier to produce a single iconic representation of a race, however by definition you are excluding someone when you really don’t need to.

Art wise it is to the current standards of fantasy RPGs and games. Like it or not.

As for me, I like the Nikua. The rest are kind of meh. But then art is subjective and I don’t expect them to please me, provided I have options for what I want my character to look like.

Agreed, and more active scenes for the art too. Everyone standing and smiling a tiny bit is ok, but where's the tension and strain of bloody battle. Ah well, it'll come when it comes.

Considering the character creation showcase ages ago, we'll at least have more 'examples' so to speak through the Presets offered for each race, and it'd be nice to see those added to race-specific pages on the website in some way as they get finalized in the character creator.

I'm also raising an eyebrow at the decision to promote the Kaelar - who overwhelmingly conform to traditional European fantasy aesthetics - not with another good looking fair skinned knightly male but rather a dark skinned woman.

    Fixed.

Lol, yeah it's honestly so funny that that kinda art would've been perfectly fine with the same people whining about the current Kaelar art :D

Traditional art style for a traditional MMORPG please. No modern 5 edition, childish cartoon art with modern hair styles and poc token representation in middle european inspired human races.

Please note that this is not wanted from your target audience and hire an experienced concept artist, that understands how proper fantasy art looks.

Recent flops in the video game industry show, that this kind of style does not sell. Be the exception and give grognards what they want.

Yes, sticking out of those luscious female lips...
and armor stuck in '90's. That will surely attract audience.

    Both are horrible.

1st one is too stylized with very odd face shapes.
2nd on is just proportion mess. Both in anatomy and armor/body ratio.
