    Giving this a bump. The thread has had less attention as there's a workaround but this really and seriously needs fixed ASAP. It's absolutely critical to 6% of your playerbase. It can be fixed in 2 minutes which was proven effective. Please address this and take it out of the backlog!

    Bump. Ultrawide is still not working as of today's test.

    This is a bit of a repost, but needed to be done as the old thread with hundreds of views was merged into a thread of a totally unrelated issue and got lost in the mix.

    Description
    Anyone using super or ultrawide screen (anything over 16:9 aspect ratio) is having a super bad experience, to the point I find it unplayable and nauseating. This is simply from the field of view.

    Bug Reproduction Steps
    Play in any resolution with a wider aspect ration than 16:9.

    Expected Result
    FoV should bind to the vertical not the horizontal, so that a wider screen shows more to the sides and doesn't cut the tops and bottom away.

    Bug Report - Actual Result
    Instead of adding view to the sides to support the larger FoV as one would expect, UE5 by default will CROP the top and bottom of the camera viewport which makes it feel very claustrophobic.

    Solution and Fix
    As an UE5 guy myself I've run into this issue multiple times, and the fix takes 5 minutes with no other changes in the project. There's two ways you can do it.

    First and easiest would be by INI:
    [/Script/Engine.LocalPlayer]
    AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV

    Or by C++:
    GetLocalPlayer()->AspectRatioAxisConstraint = EAspectRatioAxisConstraint::AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV;

    This will immediately make the game feel 1000x better for those with wider monitors.

    Can we get a fix please??? /bump

    It really is surprising at how long this is taking. It's clearly very low on their priority list; however, this affects six percent of all players in a very negative way, especially if they have a 32:9 monitor (as I do).

    Moreover, I've proven that a simple INI change on the developers' end will solve it perfectly well. It would take less than one minute to fix this.

    Please, developers, just get this fixed up.

    Bump. Also awaiting a fix and just playing in windowed mode until they address the widescreen FOV.

    Bump - This issue is still not fixed
  • paratuaparatua Member, Alpha Two
    Unfortunately, we're not being heard and at this point I don't expect anything to change. It's been THREE MONTHS now and the fix takes 30 seconds. I know this is true because I've fixed it on my end. Unfortunately, a dev needs to make the change for everyone else. This fix is literally nothing but changing an X to a Y in the engine config file of the project. The line already exists, but is explicitly set to scale to X not Y.

    With this last update there were a bunch of changes in that INI file for things like automation testing, network configuration, etc. Still, this critical issue is missed. I'm guessing it's sitting in a backlog and while someone on the team is aware of it, an actual dev simply hasn't been assigned the task.

    How many more months for a 1 second fix...

    The fact that this issue has been ignored since day one, despite being immediately pointed out, is beyond unacceptable. It has completely changed my opinion of both the game and the studio.

    Because this problem doesn’t affect streamers, it’s clear the developers have no real intention of fixing it anytime soon. The priorities here are painfully obvious, and it’s downright infuriating.

    Well I do notice the camera is zoomed in. It's not unplayable but rather unpleasant to look at in 5120x1440. I've run into this problem in countless Unreal games. I am adding to the bump.

    I'm not sure what to say on this anymore. I created a fix to test the theory in 2024 and it works great. It really is a 2 minute job for them, it's just a matter of them taking the little time.

    Bump, we need this fix :(

    This is beyond frustrating - almost every death I have had in the game is due to the compromised vision, pulling more mobs than intended (as some spawned just outside my vision, but within aggro range...) - couple with the fact mobs run typically far quicker than you, and don't de-aggro unless you get in a boat and move to another continent, has led to many a debt xp and, dropped loot, which frankly... didn't feel like a 'risk & reward' situation, but more like a cheap way to implement difficulty.

    Given the ease of a fix, and the fact a community member with UE5 experience would likely volunteer their time to not only test the game, but to also implement a fix... I don't see why this is still outstanding.

    At least remove the ultrawide resolutions so as to not give an 'illusion' of support

    The fix was created, tested, and delivered to the developers in December of last year. It would take less than 5 minutes to apply.
