People will likely be less toxic due to the fear of getting banned and losing their progress + money (the game being sub based and all..)

But will there be toxic people in the grand scheme of things? Of course. People have different opinions as to how to communicate with eachother and what to expect from other players. Surely there will be clashes.

You are the one making the claim. I am only asking for a citation. If you cannot provide one, it is just your opinion.

And I asked you to contend with my statement with or without evidence and you have nothing to refute it. So IT STANDS. <3<3<3<3

Again, that is your opinion. You are entitled to your opinion. If it makes you feel better to 'win' something I never refuted, go wild.
All I ever asked for is a citation on your claim.

I suppose toxicity is subjective. I don't consider PvP or anything PvP related to be toxic.
To me, it's about their behaviour and the things they do/say and why they do them.

If someone ganks me in a game for example, they're probably just having fun, that's not toxic to me in the slightest, but if they start saying stuff like "ur trash fkin kys lol ur trash so bad" .. then I think less of the person.

I've had people call me a "race traitor" in PvP games before, because my clan had an alliance with a Hong Kong clan and we were fighting together against these guys who were white (like me). If that's not toxic behaviour I don't know what is.

I would totally agree sandbox pvp games attract toxic people. Lots of great people too. Any game with the freedom to do whatever you want will have those kinds, but that's part of what I like about total anarchy. The universe works the way it does. Those people create themselves a lot of enemies, and I've always been able to use that to my advantage to wipe them from the face of the game.

As for AoC, I'm just not worried it will be toxic at all in comparison to what I'm used to and comfortable with. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on what is and isn't toxic and all that other stuff, but I have 0 concerns when it comes to AoC.

    Amen.

Also, please just ignore this thread now. This guy is just ignoring any reason and tries to press his line of argumentation with passive aggressiveness.

  • Every game that has ever held my interest for any amount of time has always had a bad guy. A balance is always needed. Memories that stick with me have been times when Ive overcome such "bad guys/enemies".

When I first started playing darkfall I was part of a shitty noob clan that owned a hamlet near a village and a guy who had a house there would always come and destroy us as his character was just way better than ours. It motivated me to move across the map and grind my ass off, when I came back to the hamlet, I destroyed that guy and it was one of the best feelings ever. You dont get experiences like that in games where everyone is circle jerking each other, holding hands terrified of conflict. Conflict is the key driving force behind any game having true meaning.

Stop worrying about certain types of players, except them as part of a community and make your stand on whatever side you choose. Play how you want to play, make friends with people who will fight these players, as there will be plenty, spend money to have guilds go after them, there are so many avenues to deal with this without relying on the devs to hold peoples hands.

I guess toxic is relative. In general all MMOs even pve ones have lots of toxic players

Sandbox games have some of the most toxic players in the gaming industry. I certainly hope this game has the necessary barriers in place to curtail them ruining the experience of other players to where they quit. I've never played archage or lineage so I dont know how popular they are, according to stephen a lot of inspiration came from them. If thats a big enough market to keep AoC successful then great. I dont think this game will appeal to the majority of the MMO market that tends to be casual. I will play this game regardless because I am a PvPer almost exlusively in MMO genre. I am curious how big of an audience is out there hungering for a PVP centric MMO and how toxic it will become with the players that tend to permeate sandbox games like ARK and rust. It's griefing on an unbelievable level.

That's a pretty huge claim, and you don't even specify the relative term of "toxicity" when AoC isn't even a Sandbox but a Combination of sandbox+themepark, if you had played lineage 2 you would know that the Corruption system derived from it is extremaly efficient "barrier" preventing strong players to go around alone to PK anyone on sight, as stronger the player the better gear he will drop if other people catch him and it wasn't even as punishing as the corruption system which even debuffs the player.
But even without that knowledge you are still entitled to your own opinion, questions, hopes and curiosities as only time and tests will be answer that for you.

I don't know. From what I have seen in other games these guys are relentless, and don't care about any game mechanic designed to deter them. Going as far as deleting their corrupted player when it get unplayable and starting a fresh one to level. They keep a full stable of alts to jump to, and continue their assault on humanity,.

Faction was too cruel in World of worldcraft so Blizzard implemented and on/off button to turn off PvP to support all the wounded victims of PvP in an open sandbox environment like WoW Classic in 2004.

It will probably happen in Ashes as well.

Imo, this thread itself is toxic.
    Exactly my thoughts.
I played Ultima Online, the very first sandbox, and had a lot of fun with great people.

Yes but same topic occured in UO in 97, and Gordon Walton now in Crowfall created an own map with no PvP at all and name it God`s Reach, because there are always some pro. WoW guys who want to keep as many players as possible and some hired by Blizzard with an obvious agenda against new mmos coming out.

BFA with optional pvp that a player can turn on/off in that faction game always question open world PvP in every new MMO that comes out which will delve into the risk vs reward type of environment.
I believe that a traditional mmo almost died out, because everything was boring and everyone was a winner so nothing really exciting happened in the world itself which is how I evaluate BFA in WoW.

Most toxic players in the industry? That has not been my experience at all. Do you even play shooters?

Corruption system and bounty system is the best possible solution, this is the right path for ashes. Open-world PvP with decent punishment for people who abuse it, couldn't ask for a better plan.

I think you are confusing terms. Sandbox refers to a game that is open and offers a variety of paths to progress.

If anything, sandbox is the epitomy of casual gaming because it allows players to progress in their own way.

    Freedom creates contentment.

What I think you are discussing is griefing and bullying by PvPers. Ashes will be on top of that with the anti-griefing mechanics.

I don't really understand how you could come to think sandbox gaming is a forfront to toxicity? If anything sandbox gamers are the most relaxed out there.

Where is this quote from? Do you have a citation that verifies this? Or is it just your opinion of playing all of the sandbox games.

:):):):D The games by their very nature are enough evidence. Name me another game genre that allows unthrottled and unmoderated pvp interactions. AND the ability to lose everything uve spent days grinding because u wanted to get some sleep? imagine sleeping... what a mistake. :'(:'(

None of this applies to AoC, so your claims could be valid for the whole genre, except AoC because none of the above will happen in AoC

While I don't believe ganking is toxic, it can become quite annoying and kinda makes you wanna stop playing (for the next 20 seconds).
However, ganking can be a part of RPing (if you have a strong imagination) and I guess the guards and other players will hunt the gankers down sooner or later.
