Functional armor is a thing because we as players need to connect our reality to the one we are playing, why does the sword swing from the grip of our hands instead of from the grip of our toes... its the same concept, why do we run vs glide?
Point being don't throw out functionality, scandalous armors should exist in AOC but don't throw out functionality.

Whatever they go with, if you roll a female character you need to have an automatic 10x on the number of outfits you can carry/own over the male character. If we’re talking realism, right?

And 100x on the number of shoes.

All joking aside I do support a decision not to make the game a porn sim. Style over jiggly.

No one is advocating for a porn sim. Options my dear Watson, options.

In my opinion, I think it's good that the approach to armor for female characters is the same as for male characters. I'm thinking of Lord of the Rings, where the women are aware that it's not effective to only cover the breasts and groin area :).

In MMORPGs, I exclusively play female characters and so far, I find the armor designs in AoC quite good.

I understand that some might want a bit more sexiness. My suggestion would be, like in real life, to have elegant outfits for both genders. These could possibly be shown instead of the worn armor. I believe there are MMORPGs where this is already possible. With today's wokeness, such decisions are certainly not as straightforward as they used to be.

When i see a post like this, it makes the creative die in me a little. Like are people really this boring.

Doesn't make any difference. I will hunt skins in game and make my female toon look female. The styles of skins are completely up to the devs and my personal opinion is kudos to those who can work in the framework.

The thing is some people are advocating fro 0 female armour so it wont even look female just like a guy that is a bit shorter, and maybe a bit winder hips based on your character model. The armour wouldn't eevn make you look like your character as breast.

In remnant 2 did the same thing and you either had a female head or a male head. All armour was the same aka male looking.

As long as we don't go "full-Korea" on female outfits, I'll be happy.

Nothing worse than walking around a medieval world and spotting 14-year-old with DD's and cat-ears in a sparkling white t-back bikini, holding a 1-ton sword over her shoulder.

hey are you missgenderigng those characters? you didn't ask for their pronouns. they might be non binary, gender fluid, gender neutral. how are you so sure they were male or female?

we need more gender neutral and gender fluid armor

I want my armor to swap from female, to male, to attack helicopter depending on how I feel that day.

Careful with the sarcasm some NA people might not like it lol.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I think there might be a slight misunderstanding regarding my original point.

My intention was to emphasize that armor for both men and women should provide adequate protection, similar to what we see in 'Lord of the Rings.' At the same time, I believe game designers can still highlight feminine forms with armor designs, just without exposing skin unnecessarily.

My focus is on practicality and realism in protection while maintaining aesthetic appeal. I hope this clarifies my view a bit more.

well, believability > realism. art doesn't have to be realistic, it has to be believable though.

Yes - but that is why it should be avoided.

Keep in mind, Intrepid is a company, not an activist organization. It is not their job to further any cause.

If you *really* want change in this area, you need to be out in front of that loud minority telling them why they are wrong, not asking companies to ignore guaranteed bad press.

It's worth pointing out - I feel - that my personal opinion is somewhat similar to your own. I'd much rather everyone have the choice over things like this. It just isn't going to work in a world where that loud minority are given free reign to be loud without challenge (this point applies to so many issues in the world today).

Glad we mostly agree. Where we don't is how to handle the loud minority.

    Indeed.

You seem to be of the opinion that it is on Intrepid to deal with them.

I am of the opinion that it is people that feel strongly in opposition to them that should deal with them.

Companies should not get involved in activism.

just do what other MMOs do, throw in RP/cosmetic gear and just have it as weak gear you can use as an overlay. also the woman in the video seemed she was talking more about figure than style. she wants curves not a mans body with tits

I wasn't saying that at all. I was merely agreeing with Noaani, I hope they can strike a good balance between "sexy" armor and functional armor and satisfy all parties, I certainly think it is possible.

They have been showing the male and female versions of armor/outfits for quite a while now.

Some criticize their designs as being too generic. Those critics want something more stylized that lets you know which game you are playing.

My sense is Intrepid is after a less noticeable difference in the style between male and female combat armor/outfits, particularly with medium to heavy armor. More variety in the other outfits as would befit a “normal” person of the node.

What they have shown are also the NPC versions. So I can see where background characters would be designed more generically.

I do not believe we’ve seen a represented range of styles in the armor/outfits and how those might be customized to create more masculine or more feminine versions. Or whatever you might fancy.

Such freedom of expression means you will have something that offends someone. To some even the generic outfits are offensive. There is no winning in the game of not offending people. If an era where being a victim is a social currency people will take offense in even the most trivial things. And I don’t think they have the game’s best interest in mind. You chase trying to make those people happy and you fall right back into the situation that drove the need to create AoC in the first place. Whether the perceived offense is cosmetics, gender, race, PVP vs PVE, PC balance, etc.

Any rule or design choice should factor where players might abuse them, causing the game to diverge from the vision. Whether we are talking cosmetics or functional systems. You have to factor the extremes and then question whether it fits or does not. So maybe boob armor doesn’t fit, that’s fine. I think that’s Intrepid’s call.

I personally think Intrepid have a great range of designs for female characters. It looks like we're going to have options of how covered we want to be just by the sample shared by op. With the dye system and armour having racial influence I'm sure there will be something for everyone.

    fp6b7zrr7ngo.png

This is one of my favourite designs ^^
I also like the idea of having a fancy renaissance dress but I'm thinking they are gonna be a nightmare with the wind physics.

As for curvature shape, I'm sure this will be more visible in character customisation. I think the character models we've seen so far are baseline placeholders. Which is good for those slimline ladies out there that want to have a character figure they can relate too. For us curvy, I'm sure the character creator won't disappoint ^^

The gray texture would indicate this is light armor with some very ornate chest piece. I would definitely think they have room for a lot of variety there, and this is a good illustration of that.

But then here’s the thing. Choosing an extreme body type ought to have some in game consequences. If your character is extremely obese, that’s a problem for armor and movement. It would need to be highly customized, meaning more time and resources. Could look cool in the end, depending on what you are after.
