How much abilities does each class have to press?

Imo a rotation should inlcude like maximum 4-6 spells. I do have only 5 fingers per hand and in a pvp situation keeping track of 20 spells is just bullshit.
I also think running MMO mice or having like 3 layers of buttons to press (ALT, SHIFT, CAPS,...) is to much.
There should be like simple spells, impactful ... not like 20 different things (makes it also easier for viewers enjoying and understanding what is going on)

Some situational things depending on the class and like 1-5 buffs for the group/raid depending on class aswell. But not like extensive like in wow having different rotations for everything (shadow priest wtf). Different setups for different encounters or whatever.

So in total I'd think about like up to 12-14 skills max.

Simplicity is more enjoyable in my opinion. What y'all think about this?

Rotations should not really be a thing.
Steven would like to keep Active Skills down to 20. Just because 20 Skill are available does not mean you have to use the entirety of them all the time.
Then, there are also Augments that can be appplied to Active SKills.
    Also, there are Weapon Skills.

I'm the exact opposite. There should be a ton of situational skills and players have to know how/when to use them all if they wanna succeed in pvx.

I don't like that at all, I prefer many abilities, but I guess I'm just used to that.
Also muscle memory will help u hop from button to button even if you don't have an mmo mouse or anything similar.

Well, several years ago I‘ve played with countless keybinds (like for pvp arena and rated battlegrounds in wow) and I really had fun with a lot of choice and possibilities to act and react in pvp. Many buttons, many keybinds, many choices.

Nowadays I dont need that many skills and keybinds, but I‘m fine with the action bar and amount of skills that we currently can see from Ashes gameplay. There will be some skills with higher CD (I guess), so something up to 20 seems to be ok, because frequently used will be less. Some Shift/Alt/whatever modifiers for the keybinds is fine. Left hand is flying around WASD so ^ - 6 can be reached fine, with alt thats 14 keybinds. Some aroune WASD, few on some mouse buttons. 20 keybinds is reached fast and seems to be really ok.

    Simply put:
    • A max level class will have access to 35-40 active skills
    • There is a slot reserved for basic weapon attack
    • The hotbar/actionbar has space to slot in 15-20 additional actions
    • Actions include not only active skills but also things like potions

Looking at the Bard Gameplay as an example, it seems this combo obsessed class will weave its combat mainly through weapon attacks, 2 melodies between they switch and maybe 6 active abilities with the ultimate saga ability to trigger once in a while. Totalling to a "rotation" for standard encounters that would require 9 keys.

That sounds quite managable to me.
The answer is probably >>> HERE <<<

You'll be able to make a build that suits your needs. It may not be min-maxed to the min-max, and you may not be as powerful as those who use the full set of skills, but you'll work something out.

    My simple thoughts are :

    - 3 to 4 buttons for a single target rotation
    - same for aoe rotation
    - 1 or 2 cc buttons
    - 1 or 2 gap closer/ disengage buttons
    - 1 or 2 support type buttons, like mana or health regen, increased stats, etc.

So a range of 9 to 14 active combat abilities makes sense to me. Maybe I'm missing something here, 15 would be the max I would be comfortable with. That's the great thing about Ashes though, their talent tree system allows for great customization when it comes to amount and strength of your abilities.

    I'll just have that :D
But what's to much for me is to remember a 30 button rotation in order to get the most DPS out of my character.

I rather have meaningful abilities which do something than press 5 buttons to have the same effect. While you have to move around in the game, weave-in auto-attacks and also press abilities I think have a shit ton of skills to press is to much for regular combat.

    That's some FFXIV thinking.
Most abilities in Ashes are situational, and, as things currently stand, you won't have enough mana to use all of them in one go anyway.

people are too used to games with rotations. so far my experience has been more of a reactive gameplay rather than pressing this rotation and staying there over and over plus the odd situational skill.

i get it, some classes have combos of 2-3 skills, but that's not a rotation, that's a combo. you don't keep pressing 123123123123123, you press 11, 234 then back to 111511816511 but in a different situation you do 151711189234, etc

I will see which class requires the least amount of button combo.
I had to swap my 12 button mouse for an 8 button one, i still press the wrong numbers.
Gettin old sucks, you have to adapt the best you can against these ninja whippersnappers ;)
I tell you what i know about Dwarf's.

it's most of the time also an entry barrier not just old people but youngsters don't understand what all these buttons do :D

Whatever buttons I need to kill you and take your stuff works fine with me. Maybe you only require one button to kill. Or maybe you’re good enough to need 20.

I was talking about rotation, not about situational things and buffs. Remember there will also be potions, toys, other stuff.

For the millionth time no, its 20 active skills, 15 passives for a 35-40 TOTAL. Stop spreading misinformiation.

Very poor reply, passive don’t count, they working in the background, no keys need pressing to activate them or they would not be passives, so if you semi right, it’s then 20 active skills, there could be 1000 passives, but it would still only be 20 active.

So you to are spreading miss information with the 35/40 nonsense.
