Its also not just about damage, but which skills interact with other skills by how much. Which stats interact with others and how much.
This isn't a combat tracker, it is a combat assistant.
A combat tracker only tells you what has happened, it tracks combat, not predicts it.
that being said, I wouldn't care much about an in-house dps meter. i just don't want that to become a runaway train. "we have this, so why don't we do 'xyz'".
I agree.
From my perspective though, the best way for Intrepid to prevent it from running away is for them to keep it all in house.
If they don't have a built in combat tracker, a third party one (or second party, in my case) *will* be made. The data to fill that tracker *will* be obtained. If Intrepid leave it so that this is what happens, they have lost control.
I mean, any unpermitted software being used in game would likely be a bannable offense. I don't think people are willing to take that risk in a game with such expeditious progression like Ashes. But who knows really.
For sure.
The trick is to use something they can't or won't prevent people from using.
OBS is a good example of that. If the only software I am using in relation to the game is OBS, I can use data from that to feed my combat tracker.
If Intrepid make using OBS and other similar software a bannable offense, there will be no videos or streaming of the game at all. Ever.
This is what I used to do, and was able to parse livestream demonstrations of the game. It is no longer where I get my data, but it should show you how pointless it is to try and ban people.
I just got kicked from the 100v100 guild seige because i only have 400 MP and the minimum requirement is 450 MP.
So much for toxic dps meters lol...
What a joke. Who could have seen this coming? Yes, I'm salty.
Also, I believe that the current issue is mostly with the ttk. Of course you'll be kicked for not matching a power lvl when said powerlvl literally determines if your target dies in 1 hit or in 1.5 hits. This will remain the case as long as we have this bullshit of a ttk. Gear will keep determining who's picked for content if gear power is the only thing that matters. So much for the "only 50% of your char's power". Really hope Intrepid fix this shit relatively soon.
Yeah no kidding man... I just checked.
LVL 25 naked = 65 MP
Gear Slots = 64 MP
Weapons = 165 MP
Enchants = 102 MP
This was L2's design, which allowed it to not get tooo crazy with OE powerlvling. Though I'd prefer an even tighter power scaling than L2 had. Minmaxers will still fight over 0.1% power increase, so it's not like they would suddenly leave the game just because they can no longer one-shot people. And those who do leave over that - fuck'em, the game definitely doesn't need people like that.
I revised my comment to show my actual stat structure... Its fucked up man. Levels should be 50% of the max power available, not 10%. (people are at 600 MP now)
Recently I saw some kind of message from the devs about "legendaries should feel legendary!" probably in reference to how powerful they should be. This is completely tone-deaf in my opinion. If anything, power should get diminishing returns at the high end, not even MORE power.
If you make a game that only caters to the top players, then only the top players will keep playing... Seems like obvious shit to me.
Right now none of that is the case, so that phrase doesn't make sense. I'll choose to believe that it's just "alpha" for now, but we'll have to see.
Rarity-based enchantments would also allow for a more equalized power leveling. Poor players would have common gear, but their enchantmens would also be of a higher lvl, so that gear would be roughly the same in power as uncom-rare base stuff. And that ladder would go up to legendaries, with each step of the ladder not being too far away from the previous step in power, so that enchanted legendary still couldn't just one-shot a person in common gear.
@Xeeg
It sucks man. The worst part is, as far as you and Intrepid know, there is no means for you to prove you are a good enough player to come along. You were rejected based on a number that has little to do with your ability to play the game.
Well to be fair, i probably suck too. Haven't had a ton of pvp experience yet due to a variety of factors. Part of the reason i keep bitching is because i could do pvp all day and for a pvx game im def spending the vast majority of my time on the pve thing.
IT'S TIME TO REVIVE THIS SHIT_!!
DPS METER TOPIC ENYOYERS ASSEMBLE !!!!
The poster said they developed the tool, and Intrepid claimed they were using third party tools.
It is VERY clear in the ToS that Intrepid are considered the first party, the user is considered the second party, and all others are considered third party. Thus, according to Intrepids own definition, the Reddit user was using a second party tool, but was given a suspension for using a third party tool.
Intrepid need to sort their shit out. While an argument can be made that they can do as they wish, if they are giving a reason for action on an account that is so easily proven to be factually incorrect, they are opening themselves up to a world of shit that they really don't need to open themselves up to.
Seems like a whole lot of shooting themselves in the foot
Using DPI altering software that most modern mice come with is also a third party tool, using an alarm clock app is third party, having a podcast running in the background is third party, recording gameplay with OBS is third party and so on. The third party software has to modify in-game files to be actionable against, otherwise they will have to ban everyone.
1. We will give u ingame log for dmg, heal, buffs, etc.
2. If u use this information to calculate your dmg, heal, etc. we will ban u.
Iam genuinely curious!
Intrepid only believes in Artisanal, hand-crafted (organically grown?) statistics.
Introducing machines into the data-harvesting process, they say, adds toxic elements to the result that can harm those who consume it, altering their brain functions and behaviour.
2nd party or 3rd party or 4th party - No Add-ons.
I bet we have quotes about that here before Page 10.
Is using the other computer to run OCR(Object Character Recognition) on the damage numbers against TOS?
Is sending those numbers to other clients against TOS?
Where exactly is the line?
This is my personal feedback, shared to help the game thrive in its niche.
Just going to leave this here because I feel like it's a line worth walking.
This is my personal feedback, shared to help the game thrive in its niche.
Realistically the best you can hope for is for people to not talk about it.
This is my personal feedback, shared to help the game thrive in its niche.
This is not where the line is, nor has it ever been.
You will not be able to find Intrepid saying that add-ons are the line.
This is because combat trackers are not add-ons.
The only line that has been drawn is no third party applications that give an unfair advantage.
The letter of that would include Discord, it would include web browsers if you use it to look for information on thr game such as builds, look at a wiki, or ask a question on these forums or Reddit.
Right now, it is purely at Intrepuds discretion, yet they are banning people that are specifically not crossing the only line they have drawn.
Whether YOU like it or not, if Intrepid state third party applications of some particular form are against their ToS, that means second party applications are specifically not against the ToS that Intrepid have had us all agree to.
Just for reference, there are several thousands of people that have downloaded an ACT mod to run with Ashes. Combat tracking is just as common in Ashes alpha as it is in WoW today.
So far, no one using ACT has reported that Intrepid is in any way aware that they are running it, because there is literally no way for them to detect it.
