[Bug Hunting] GPU Crashes and Running Out of VRAM

RoshenRoshen Member, Staff
edited December 10 in Alpha Two Bug Reporting
Hey all!

We are looking for more information for players with high-end GPUs running out of VRAM. If you're running out of VRAM, we would like to know:
  • How long were you online?
  • Where in the game were you at when this happened?
  • Are there any steps you can take to reproduce the issue consistently?

You can also send your logs directly to us this way. If you reported GPU crashes previously, this page has been updated with more diagnostic steps.

If you continue to have issues, please turn on "Enable GPU Crash Debugging" in your launcher. Having this on will take up more space on your computer.

Thanks to everyone that spends time sharing info here, and turns on "Enable GPU Crash Debugging," so we can try to resolve crash issues.
Edit: Hi all!

The team is still investigating reports of this.

In addition to sending your logs immediately after having crashed, please also include a dxdiag file so we can better understand what's going on <3

Am getting this error after launching the game and before character selection. Basically saw nothing but a black screen. And yes, that is very, very consistent :)

I am seeing a crash every time I try to launch the game. The screen goes dark like it is launching the game from the client, but then it crashes.

    Specs:
    13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K 3.00 GH
    64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)
    ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
    Samsung UltraWide Neo G9 Pro

    Q&A:
    How long were you online?
Unable to get online with the game. These crashes are happening when I try to launch the game from the client.

Where in the game were you at when this happened?
At the client. The game crashes when I try to "Launch Game" from the client.

Are there any steps you can take to reproduce the issue consistently?
Yes. This occurs every time I try to click the "Launch Game" button in the client.

First of all appreciate the grind of the Intrepid team during this insane time. Thanks a bunch.

    How long were you online?
    ~10 minutes

Where in the game were you at when this happened?
I was fighting goblins, on the huge battlefield near the gateway.

Are there any steps you can take to reproduce the issue consistently?

Have not found any repro steps. It happens spontaneous.

    Specs:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
    GPU: AMD Radeon 6800 XT
    OS: Win10 Pro 19045.5011
    Resolution: 5120x1440

    Notes:
Sudden black screen and my only choice is to hard reset my PC, which leaves me unable to collect the usual error logs that would popup. I believe this happens more often when it's really busy.

    - Crashed 4x on the 24th Spot test while waiting in queue
    - Played uninterrupted on the 25th where I had no queue for about 3h
    - Official A2 launch, I crashed twice in 20 minutes.

Your issue is your cpu is toast. it needs to be RMA'd if you want to play immediately I suggest setting your cpu to 5.2ghz. It should work fine from there.

I have 14900k and a 4090. The issue is with the i9 13 and 14th gen and intel. There is no issue with intrepid or their software.

It's not a CPU issue. Or at the very least, not that one. Because I have the same issue with a 9th gen CPU.

Not a CPU issue, I have and AMD CPU and I get those black screens

Hi! I have a pretty basic videocard (1070 ti) and was not having any of these crashes, until i decided today to turn off the windows pagefile (disk memory) to get more space. I do not know if it is related, i thought that vram was not handeled in pagefiles, but maybe i'm wrong.

Also if you are seeing that your CPU is at 100% but you gpu is not, then increase the video settings of the game/limit the fps more. If the GPU has nothing to do, then the CPU is giving more commands. i was lagging with low/medium graphics yesterday, mut i increased to ultra and with an i7-7700 and a 1070ti i was getting stable 50-60 fps

I had one crash at the time i loaded the character creator and one i loaded into the game.

Sounds weirdly plausible. I'll try to crank up the settings once I'm trough the queue and report back.

I haven't been able to get the log cause of the queue, will retry later, but one thing i noticed after the first post you did is that enabling V-Sync increase the "playable time" before crash. Only few minutes but still. I don't have any problems with any other game usually on max quality. I'm running on a RTX 2070 Super and a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU 3.70GHz, 3696 MHz, 6 core

I've been getting the same crash 10 seconds in, every time, since the start of Alpha 2. I've updated everything, changed all the settings I can think of or that have been suggested, and I've even tried independent UE GPU Crash fixes. Nothing has changed.

I tried this and I am not sure if it was a fluke but upon loading into the game I set it to ultra and limited to 90 FPS and my GPU/CPU were at around 50% and no crash for 1h+.

It is not a GPU problem, it is CPU problem. I turned off a lot of boostings for CPU in BIOS and vuala - I have entered the game! Finally!

My GPU crashes, previously reported in the last thread, are from overheating. It's turning itself off and disconnecting from monitors.

I have run into a GPU crash two times today and one time yesterday. The first time was in Lions Gate just interacting w/ NPCs in the town doing the starting quests about 15 mins in. The second time I was just outside Lions Gate at the entrance to the Bone Yard killing goblins when it happened, this time about 5-10 mins in. Finally the GPU crash I had during the Stress Test I went to the water South East of Lions Gate and was walking around the water basin about 20-30 mins in.

Unable to get a consistent reproduction of the issue at this time but will continue to monitor the issue on my end.

RTX 3070 w/ under clocked voltage (due to a known 3070 issue w/ voltage spikes causing other games to crash my PC)

For those of you that are crashing due to VRAM, have you tried lowering your settings? If so, did that fix the issue?

During Stress test I would get to lionhold and crash. Now I cant even leave the starting area before I crash. Memory issues is the same as everyone else I assume. I'll keep fiddling to see if there is something to be done on the user end.

    ***FIXED***

I was able to resolve this issue by updating BIOS. I also updated my graphics drivers and optimized my 3D settings in NVIDIA Control Panel, but I wasn't able to play until after I had updated my BIOS to the latest version. Hope this helps some folks who are struggling like I was.

So are we ever gonna get any updates on this being fixed? Literally can't play any UE5 games with the AOC launcher installed due to VRAM issues.

    My drivers are fully updated.

Where in the game were you at when this happened?
The game crashes when I try to launch the game or I get the out of VRAM message. I'm unable to play.

    I tried it on:
4K setting on low, medium, high and ultra. With or without DLSS.
2k setting on medium, high and ultra, with or without DLSS.

    *Update*:
I launched the game on my laptop instead of my PC and no VRAM issues so far. Settings: 2k resolution on medium. I do see the ghost wall in the starting area where the portal is and it's very laggy.

As the title says, I'm completely unable to launch the game. As soon as the client starts, screen goes black with an error message about GPU memory attribution being too low to play the game, on a geforce 4090 -_-

Tried to reinstall graphics drivers etc. every single other game works perfectly fine

Updating the BIOS did not fix the issue for me. Seemed slightly better on the performance side. But still crashed after a few minutes of gameplay.

Some people have a problem with the out of Vram error either inside the loading sreen or after being in the game. After trying around i at least found a fix that should work. Or it did for me anyways. After i saw that my cpu goes to 5.7 GHz when iam inside the loading Screen, i played around a little. It seems limiting your GHz to around 5 does the trick. There is another solution that can work its switching to DX11 instead for 12 but i couldnt figure out how to do it in AshesofCreation.
Hope that will help atleast some people here to finally start testing.

Excuse my bad english pls not a native speaker
