Scope creep is a problem and I hope the game launches eventually although the extended release date is saddening.

I agree with you here. I even had a sub for SC and a Rear-Admiral package and I'm not even sure it's going to be released now lol. I think concerns were raised yesterday when they extended KS through June, but the Intrepid hierarchy have dealt with creep in their media releases and I'm going to trust them on that.

I'd rather take the time from now until release believing in Ashes than being a daily cynic about the development ahead. Life's too short, and I sincerely hope this game will be 1 notch on your success list @Zomnivore. Time will tell.

If I could spit in the MMO genre's eye I would. I don't apologize. I agree SC doesn't look bad, its just scope creep that feels bad.
  • Lol, why have any problem with even "how he said it"? We are Gamers! Quite a few of us are probably a bit eccentric.
This is true.  In a previous comment back in this thread, I even hint at the seed of jealousy for not being a pretty pretty princess.  And we're all obsessively defending our opinions on a genre of computer game in here....   we're all nut jobs!  ;)

But decent ones, I must say, because I am quite proud of how this thread has not devolved into a flame war.  We've all remained decent people while trying to convey our thoughts and ideas.   Well done everyone!

  • Hm.  I read that entire premise, by the @zomnivore.  I say "premise", as opposed to "opinion", because it seemed it was less about trying to state facts, and more about sharing his/her perspective on aspects of the gaming world.

The most cogent piece was near the end, when @zomnivore was talking about how "he/she", along with others, contributed to the downfall of the current status quo of mmo's, and such.

Granted, the state of mmo's has led to an increasingly nomadic playstyle, among the mmo community.  It's not some hive-minded effort, though, so much as it's a byproduct of uninspiring development on the part of game developers, naturally leading players to get burnt out.

I'm guessing that's where he's coming from.  Just in a more "soapbox'ish" way?
  • I don't see the purpose of this post. It just looks to me like you're trying to start an argument.

Except he didn't, in fact, that's kinda laughable for a claim.

I gather he is going to find some random reason to leave whilst claiming to have "shown the sheep",  and nothing will come of it.

ha. Well my earlier post was eaten by edit anyways, but...
I didn't have a problem with what he said or how he said it.

Zomnivore has an interesting perspective. One I don't particularly even disagree with because I stopped playing MMORPGs in 2014.
I won't play an MMORPG that has an endgame.

I'm backing Ashes because its game design is basically the successor to EQNext.
And I'm willing to support devs working on features I feel are imperative for revolutionizing the genre -like Storybricks/nodes, PvP conflict/meaningful conflict and building/destruction- in order for the genre to thrive.

    KOA - EQNext - Revival
    I have hope.
But I don't really buy into the hype. I'm actually expecting vaporware.
  • I don't understand how people who back a kickstarter that's aim is to shake things up can think I'm talking meanly about them for not stepping up to change things.

If I'm not saber rattling FOR the revolution I don't know what I'm doing. To people who defend the status quo but also back this game all I have to say is, who's the one being confused?
  • I disagree with this, thread. however...

Honestly, the thing I can't get over is your assumptions, your arrogance, and how you continue to speak from on high up on this pedestal of rotting wood you so desperately try to hold together as each of us pick it apart from beneath you.

You're trying to preach to a flock of sheep, but I'm sorry to disappoint you, there's a guard dog among them.

Your entire initial post smelled so strongly of your smug, holier than thou attitude that I had to speak up. You tell us that "You guys give yourselves too much credit." and you say that " You think you know what you like." You demand that we "Ignore what you tell yourself is fun, and RUN toward what is fun", that we "really haven't found FUN in one yet"

Please, all knowing preacher from some basement in the States, TELL US WHAT IS FUN! Please speak down to us more! Clearly not a single person ON THE WHOLE PLANET had ANY fun in WoW, or ESO, or SWTOR. Not a single moment of enjoyment! That's impossible according to you, so you jump up on your soap box and preach to us
"MMO lovers" who have "enjoyed our sinking ships".

Seriously, retract your kickstarter on all those games you claim to support, and go back to your shooters. You'll be happier that way.
  • Why can't I activate Agree, Like and LOL all at the same time??!!??

Also. I'm done talking to you.
    Context?

Edit: Fascinating! Looks like I caught that "Also, I'm done talking to you" bit before you edited it out. If you're finished speaking with me, feel free to continue with what I suggested, and go play some shooters.

Sorry I thought better of being a punk on the internet. I know snowflake triggers some people, but I guess I found one here too.

Go ahead and prattle poetic about me babe.

You are attempting to believe that you are convincing.

You are mistaken.  In fact, people don't really get what you are getting at, other than being belligerent at the backers that believe in the game.

Your title?  The long confusing screed decrying people that have play MMO games before?
  • lmao
    Too late, now!
  • So you don't like WoW and you don't want AoC to be like WoW. I get it. But it does seem like you're trying to turn this into a flame war.

Thinking! Good, that will help you here. This whole time I was wondering why you were writing the way you did, now it all makes sense. Glad to see you thinking better now!

As for being triggered about being called a snowflake, I'm very sorry to disappoint you, but that is actually quite flattering. Being unique is only ever a compliment.

Also, my friend, if you "thought better about being a punk on the internet", you shouldn't IMMEDIATELY follow that declaration up with being a punk as you talk about "Triggering people", "prattling poetics" and calling someone your "babe".

Contradict yourself a little less, and please use that "thinking" thing a bit more, or else this conversation won't be very fun. :(

I didn't choose to get offended and then stay in the thread some people just want to complain. Some people want to have a problem with what I said, because of how I said it.

I don't really see the point to the effort but by george its gotta be fun and if they found their FUN I don't see why I should tell them how to be.

So you  intentionally used the term 'snowflake' knowing it has the 'potential to trigger some people'? sounds to me like you where/are trying to start an argument.
  • @ Zomnivore

So.... any chance that you might have come across a little too strongly with the "you people" approach? Maybe a bit to much self assurance that your are the enlightened one and that you actually know the least thing about any of the people here? Might have made some sense if you were making a response post to one or some people's posts.

I'm not really offended and I kinda think I get what you are saying even if you communicated it sort of judgmentally and strongly. I think that your point is a bit weak on stuff like.... facts and heavy with assumption.

I am really happy for you being enlightened and all, though. ;)

    This. This sums it up.
  • Well...this has certainly turned into....something?  *looks around, confused*

I'm not even sure people are debating a certain point, or perspective, anymore.  And, while I do love a good, sometimes even heated/passionate dialogue, methinks this thread has taken a downturn into something more..."insidious"?

The context clues that you don't understand half of what I said is that you keep telling me to go back to playing shooters.

If you'd read with any comprehension you'd know why that is kind of dumb. I'm not saying you're dumb I'm just saying the clues are adding up to the fact that you've terribly misunderstood the op, chosen to get cross, and made up to be angry.

The next clue that you don't have good reading skills is that you TOTALLY missed a clear allusion to the U.S. revolution and the tea being tipped in the river.

Clear signs that you just don't understand, you even go back and claim some more bogus stuff about that point.

I don't really care that you're angry, but I honestly don't see why you are.

  • WTH?? That one sentence is the post that got a flag???

    @ Zomnivor

You come across as contradicting your very own self. You want us to "wake up" and not play MMOs that we don't like and it is our fault that they keep coming out terrible. Yet that link to the youtube stuff is an illustration of a Developer driving people away by not listening to the player base.

What you did in your "statement" is assume that "we"(everyone but you) play these MMOs despite that fact that we are not having fun doing so. Well, sure, I have left MMOs before that I didn't care for anymore or right off the bat.

What you are doing is projecting YOUR gaming odyssey onto whoever reads your OP. You did it in a way that could be taken as arrogant and judgmental and, well honestly, out of the complete bleeding blue. No context, which you would have had if responding to other peoples posts. Just out of nowhere.

As I wrote before, I am not really offended. Just suggesting what I think is going on that seems to puzzle you a bit.
