  • I flagged for spam. This clearly isn't going to stop until they feel they've won and my thread is locked, for flaming. If thats how you want to play games I can flag, and start the process.

WTH?? That one sentence is the post that got a flag???

    Given by moderator or?
No, I don't believe so.  Regular posters can "flag" a post, which may bring it to a moderator's attention...given it receives enough flags.  This is entirely based on assumption, on my part.

And, as a quick side note, I don't believe that her post was worthy of flagging.

You and @Krojak may have wildly differ in your stances, regarding games and the gaming community.  Granted.  But, I don't think it's her intention to get your thread locked.  I've seen discourse get more intense than this, w/o moderators getting involved, by locking threads.  Let's not "up the anti", so to speak, and force their hand.

Just relax, and take it down a notch.  Everyone is free to voice their opinion.
  • Well, I can see I spoke too soon when I congratulated everyone by saying, "We've all remained decent people while trying to convey our thoughts and ideas. "

    My bad.

I'll be a bit sorry to see this thread go actually.  First page had some great stuff! ;)

  • It's all a bit silly except if the OP can't admit(even just to himself) that he came across a little too strongly with the wording. He may not feel so, but the feedback shows a wee bit of evidence leaning that way. Just saying...

I know I have written things before that started a ruckus that I had no clue would do so.

  • *sniff*
      Do I smell a troll?

I really don't see how you think thats possible. I obviously know I've upset someone. Do I care? Not particularly.

lol Well that's ok too. I had thought that you were trying to start a conversation about something other than what these 3 pages are about. Something along the lines of the point of your OP.

If you willfully wanted to come across as so many are taking it, then you are getting what you have earned. What is your point in posting what you did, the way you did? Just to start a bunch of stupid back and forth?

If you were trying to start a constructive convo, do you feel like your OP and follow up is working?

  • I had to read it twice.

When you write something so long, people tend to skim instead of actually reading it. Please don't blame them for doing so, it is only natural. And when they wrongly accuse you of trolling, you went on the defensive which is natural too, but insulting them back passive-aggressively only reaffirmed their misconception of you (again, which is only natural).

I can see your attempt (after a 2nd read) at rallying the troops to fight for the revival of the MMO genre. You could have cut out the theatrics and just went straight to the point.

I will attempt to summarize your OP, you can correct me if I'm wrong:

Attempting to appeal to all players instead of the MMObase is what killed the MMO genre. "Snowflake" is an attempt to address players with special needs that put pressure on the devs to change the MMO genre to appeal to them. What happens is the genre loses it's luster and slowly dies. People with special needs should seek out genre/games that fits their needs instead of changing existing genres for the worst. We are all lovers of the MMO genre, let us band together and fight for what we love.

    Did I do it right?

See, that I don't necessarily disagree with.
I can certainly understand that sentiment.
I think there are still a couple of factors I might use to argue against the point, but that summary right there is a fair argument to be had.
  • And the first person to be added to my ingame hitlist is...  >:)
  • Critisism is an importnat part of life. You cant simply sugarcoat everything and keep going in life as if nothing happened.
In the end of the day, as much as you admire the game and the genre, its a product.
and people will pay real life money for this product.
Creating something that isnt to the person standards will create a displease and eventually a loss of a customer.
The first M from MMO stands for Massive.
I understand you cant whine about every single detail, but this is exactly why the genre has been failing in the past years. because the developers has completly ignored the players (which will be different case in AoC).
    Hope you can understand that.
  • Hmmm, interesting. I guess this post could be viewed simply as:

    1. The OP feels that his opinions plays a huge factor the success of a genre in a public context. He played WoW and a few other games, didn't like it and therefore the MMO genre is a failure.

    2. Since the genre is a failure, people who are playing it are all hanging on to a sinking ship and hence unable to find any fun.

    3. HOTS is the best moba ever, and therefore, that genre is a success for him.

    4. Fear not, he has backed a number of MMOs, so there is hope yet for the genre. So the good people like him has given MMOs another chance. *phew*

    5. He isn't totally selfish or self-absorbed because his goal is to help us understand (whether the goal is achieved is arguable) why he doesn't like MMOs and really for us to understand that we really dislike MMOs ourselves and how we can understand point of view and/or share his opinions so we can have be enlightned and have more fun in games.

See this guy gets it. If you guys were fine playing farmville in WoW at your garrison I don't know why you're here.

Also the guy above him? Just one of my smurfs ignore people agreeing with me.
  • I have played (that I can think of) Ultima online, Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Everquest Next, Vanguard, Horizons, World of Warcraft, Star Wars, Guild Wars and Lord of the Rings.

I like both MMO's and snowflakes.

It is absolutely acceptable for people to believe I don't like MMO's based off of some reasoning they have come up with. I don't mind, people I don't know think all sorts of odd things about me based on all sorts of odd things.

Now someone telling me what I think and feel or I have done without knowing anything about me... that is just crazy or arrogant maybe a bit of both. Happily no one would do that... ever.
  • Personally, I believe the developers were stuck catering to the $$$ and not so much appealing to the mass. They targeted the top 1% of players that would spend $$$ instead of catering to the large player base below.

The context clues that you don't understand half of what I said is that you keep telling me to go back to playing shooters.
    ....

The next clue that you don't have good reading skills.....

Clear signs that you just don't understand, you even go back and claim some more bogus stuff about that point....
    Dear Zomnivore,

The proof that something isn't right should be that multiple people 'don't understand half of what you said'

I think that a lot of what you perceive as people's anger is actually people's confusion about what exactly you were trying to say.

Don't give up, please help all of us to understand where you are coming from.

So from what I can gather you feel that the player base of Mmos have been sticking around, persuading themselves that they were having fun doing things like unending grinding, rather than recognising, raising and addressing the issue that the fun had died long ago?
I'm not sure if there was more to it than that, I got very confused by your communication style.

We're you going that this thread would stimulate conversation, were you showing support and hope for AoC, were you offering solutions?
