Will you be doubling down on your main class by choosing the same secondary class?

For example: Mage/Mage, Bard/Bard, ETC.

  • Glass cannon all the way!
  • I have myself in my Sig listed as Tank/Bard but I have to wait for more information on the Bard. If that doesn't look desirable I will be playing a Tank/Tank
  • I'm not sure yet, whether to go with fighter/fighter, fighter/tank or tank/fighter.
  • I'm not sure yet, whether to go with fighter/fighter, fighter/tank or tank/fighter.
  • Until we see what not doubling down does to your toon, ie means you don't tank as well as a double tank it is impossible to decide.

  • Bard/Bard anyone? With epic horns, and lutes and guitars, smashing in heads and being all like "the pen is mightier than the sword" in rythmic and poetic lyrics!

I duno yet, we just have no clue what classes do and what augments they provide.
  • Bard/bard all the way. You will take my buffs and you will like it

Gotta be a strong healer :D It's possible I might go bard secondary but that depends ^~*
  • ...because it may be that doubling down is too much overkill for what I need..
...or that it is just too much fun to second as something else (also looking at cleric here....)
...or the double down might be just all that anyone will accept in groups...

Lots of reasons, but time will tell <3
  • Bit early to say, but most likely I won't pick the same subclass.
  • That's what Alts are for
    I fancy a Mage/Warrior = Battlemage
Bard/Rogue = more Thistle than Dandelion
    Rogue/Ranger = Assassin
  • It's going to depend on what I get out of it and how easy it's going to be if I wanted to change.

I'll be rolling either a Tank (most likely) or a Cleric which will have an important role in PvE encounters but I also like doing a lot of PvP and I'd prefer that I focused on a single character rather than having alt after alt to do different things.

Tank/Tank sounds like it will be super useful for raiding, dungeons and general monster killing but I think that something like Cleric (for self-heals) or Bard (for buff effects) may be more useful in a Player versus Player environment.

I'm going to have to judge each of the 'classes' on their own merits and how it's going to allow me to perform in both PvP and PvE then I'll come to a decision, at the moment though I don't think we have enough information for me to be making a rational decision.
  • Will depend how it works :3 ill decide when more information is released ^^ I will be bard something though!
  • We don't know for sure that a player even can take the same class as primary and secondary.  The reason I could see for not providing that is doing so would tend to make all role-mixed combinations deemed subpar and unacceptable for high end dungeon and raid content and likely make pure same-same combinations overpowered in PvP - gamebreakingly unbalanced and unbalanceable right from the start.
  • Bard/Whatever , I hope to play them all if possible.

This is definitely happening (the ability to choose same primary/secondary). It was shared on one of the live streams.

Just think of it as your secondary giving you a different set of augments to modify your primary skills. So choosing tank again will just give your more tank like augments for your tank skills. All secondaries will "improve" and "augment" your skills in different ways.

I'm not sure where the concerns for game breaking unbalance comes from?
  • As an old Guild Wars player, I'll be mixing it up instead of double stacking. More than likely main melee with a secondary of range.
  • I'll probably mix and match. There are some combos that have really interesting possibilities.
  • It is way to early to answer this question. My prime will be a rogue but what to add? Rogue/rogue is too easy however rogue/mage or rogue/ranger are previous favorites but rogue/bard might be interesting... and then there are the inverses...ummm?

It was confirmed early on players would have the option to double down on the same class.

Yeah, I remembered hearing that. The example given was tank/tank I think.
  • Will we end up with classception? Summoner/Summoner's able to summon themselves?

By the power of Kralash, I summon... Myself!
  • I can't even begin to wrap my head around class choices yet...
So many options and so little info and I like to experiment a lot...the first year (at least) of this game is going to have me filling my character slots to try it all out, lol
  • I want to be bard first and foremost, but I've been thinking cleric for healing/buff support but the way I understand it, the healing will only apply to myself so I may not even need it? I'm just going to need more info before I can be sure. I suspect those that do double will be very strong characters in their own way.

That was just one example of a cleric augment right? Since the Bard's primary role seems to be buffing the team, the healing/clerical augments could still end up healing the team. Perhaps a small HoT song or something.

Most probably nothing at a cleric's level of healing.

Very true - the interesting thing will be to measure whether mixing primary/secondary is worth the tradeoff of doubling down. The other pitfall is that some secondary's become so powerful that all primary's will want to have said skills. Tank/Summoner, Bard/Summoner, Rogue/Summoner etc etc. It's going to be a hell of a balancing act in dealing with all the combos, but what a great prospect for a stimulating gaming experience.
  • Undecided as depends on what doubling down would gain for my character compared to the more unique tailoring of the skills which i can freely choose by having a different secondary class.
Wont know really until we get more info on how they affect the skills so come on Intrepid and help us poor kids out... pretty please  ;)
