Management of an mmo project is pretty important Steven is a noob therefore I'm a reasonable skeptic I think.
There goes your Alpha key ;)
  • I can't vote as the option I want is. I love everything they saying and I believe they will try their best to achieve. But who knows what they can do.
  • I'm going all in balls deep!

Imma healthy skeptic i guess. I really want this game to do well. But in the back of my mind i cant help but to wonder if ill even like it and play for more then a week. Which dosent mean its not a good game, just one that is not for me. I feel the same way about lost ark ;)
But i neeeeeeeeed an mmo that i can pay for years to come. Heres hoping its aoc!

I grew up in an mmo with a heavy emphasis on unorganized/world/open pvp.
Where you lost gear if you pk too much, but if was enemy guild or player you could pk 3x more.
There was zeri safe zones except market map.
where if your items dura goes to 0 its gone forever, where max level took years, when you died from pvp you lost potentially 10-20hrs of grinding worth exp.
You drop inventory items if you die. No such thing as bound items.
Skills also took years to get max level.
Where combat was 20% gear based 80% skill based.
Same set of gear was worked on from day 1.
Gear was basically impossible to max out even for very heavy paying person.  It would take years to do it that way.
Pvping people hunting for their loot

Mmos are too soft these days.

  • think just the passion of the project employers got me hooked so really want it to do well
  • hard to say this early ofcourse but so far it looks fantastic and the team really accounts for everything it seems. I have high hopes for this game and will play it whatever happens!
  • IMAO what are they plan to do is great, but there are less than 20% chance that they will successfully crate it they way they wanted.

Even if they would do everything they planed, those things sounds good, but not enough to make a game successful:
-Most of the players aren't like complex stuff. For example: the market what they design already kill most of the players ability to trade. Politic, grinding, control over resources, FFA PvP they aren't things that the masses like. There are players who like that, but that only enough for like 20-50k peak online player count, and that's aren't too high.
-Also the most important part of a MMO is the combat and balance. We don't know anything about it. If they put it full of pointless crap just to make it look shiny and "unique", it doesn't going to have a bright future.

There are Orcs. Thank AoC devgods. Even two flavours!.

But i rather be a Troll.
    or Ogre ingame.

But i be the stargazer Orc for now.
  • I want to believe and trust in them. Until proven otherwise, I will trust! (๑و•̀ω•́)و
  • Healthy skeptic, in life and in internet. I hope and support, but always know there is a chance to get burnt again.
  • Faith has the power to make empires so why not a great game
  • I approach each game I play with an open mind, accept it for what it has to offer. I am not the kind of person to start playing a game and then do nothing but complain about it, life is too short move on. To me AOC has a far greater number of concepts that appeal to me as an MMO player than anything I have played thus far.
  • A little off topic, but wanted to say, @Varkun that I like your sig.
  • Im healthy sceptic. At least I'm trying to be.

    MUST.... RESIST.... THE URGE...
    DO NOT...GET....EXCITED....

    But it's soooooo hard ^^.

    Kasyee just embrace it :-)

I thought my sig was kind of plain compared to many of the absolute works of art some have created.

It has a simplicity that tells a story, and the placement is attractive to the eye.
  • I went for unwavering supporter.

I got prison-fucked by EQ Next, and Shroud of the Avatar is nothing like I hoped it would turn out. You can definitely put me in the "Tired of Being Burned" category. But I feel like if you're not ready to commit, then don't. So I did.
  • Devote. LET US INTO AOC!!!!

    Brrrr... Shroud of the avatar.

    Lol.
  • It doesn't matter what I think. It only matters that the game is released and delivers on expectations OR attains a profitable player base. Forum/KS/June Funding members expectations are not deliverables on their project plan; turning a profit is. The easiest way for them to do that is walk away now and leave everyone hanging.

If I personally thought there was a good chance this venture were going to succeed I would be on their doorstep with cash ready to invest. But they don't yet have the people capable of creating the IP to make this work in the next couple of years. -- The Integrated Development Environment (ney even a complete engine) for this game doesn't yet exist, the backend network stack doesn't yet exist, generally affordable consumer hardware to run the game doesn't exist, consumer Internet bandwidth isn't yet good enough, the player base to sustain the game may not exist. So many disparate puzzle pieces need to fit in order to get this game off the ground, and more to sustain it. I've only touched on the most glaring examples I thought of quickly.

I have low confidence this game will ever launch... But like the rest of you, I sincerely hope I am proven wrong on every point and them some.

    Peace.
  • What can I say? I pretty much think its up to us to make this game great. Each server will have its own player driven ecosystem. I would like to think we will follow a path that creates interesting and fulfilling actions, reactions and cooperation. I am a firm believer that those of us that want this game to succeed can make it fun for those that just want the next game to play. I am sure that wardens and kings will make for interesting situations, social events, and complex shenanigans!  I cannot wait to play this game and start helping out!

Pretty stoked about this game. I hope the word gets out, and we can get some new people in while the getting's good. Look at me... sound like a commercial lol. Its true though, its a great time to get in if you haven't already.  $25 start... seriously... if you are reading this and you have not yet bought in.... look at this as the last chance, just say'n.. gamer to gamer.... its the real thing... just do it!

  • I am very excited about this game and hope it will be the next big mmorpg that everyone wants to play. I know I do anyway.

If the game doesn't succeed, it certainly won't be due to lack of support from the community.
It's been years since a game in development has attracted this quality level of attention, I think.

I know I'm getting a bit off topic here, but I'm a big supporter of Star Citizen too.  That game is just so big in scope that I take a step back and only check in from time to time, cause I'd go crazy waiting for it to be finished if I didn't otherwise.

But that being said, I'll be flying a Constellation and mining in both a Orion and Prospector when that fated day arrives... >.>
