Previous MMORPGs Played?

Hello everyone!

Allow me to introduce myself: Hinbane. PvPer. RPer. Done. Three words (acronyms?) and in three (incomplete) sentences. (I have a huge love for the classics and mythology and so I have also always loved the storytelling element of games).

I'm very excited by this project as it seems to account for some "glass ceilings" and blind spots in the way of game design. As I've found myself entertaining getting involved in this when it comes out, it got me thinking... where is everyone else "from" gaming wise. For me:

- World of Warcraft
- Guild Wars (1 & 2)

How could you? It was rated -3/10 on every single website!
  • I started with UO then I played the same ones as Nagash. I regret some of them. Especially that one. I don't know Nagash though unless he is the one that shall not be named. If he is, I still wouldn't know since he wasn't named.
  • Since 1999 I've sampled most if not all. Spent most of my time In LOTRO though as that was the one with the special IP tgat I enjoyed the most. I'm hoping Ashes will trump it. Welcome to the community @Hinbane!
  • I've played a few, but these are the ones I've sunk the most time into:

    • WoW
    • FFXI
    • FFXIV
    • SkyForge

The Lord of The Rings Online
    The Repopulation
    Salem
    Archeage
    Black Desert

Basically if the game is considered a sandbox I will give it a shot. Hence the reason why I was drawn to this game. Seems like a lot of you are more accustomed to Theme Park MMOs. I hope you like what a sandbox has to offer!

    EverQuest
    Guild Wars
    World of Warcraft
    Lord of the Rings Online

    Star Wars-The Old Republic
    Wildstar
    Final Fantasy XIV
    Black Desert Online
    Riders of Icarus
    Archeage
    Skyforge
    Revelation Online

I'll try anything at least once that looks remotely interesting.  :D

  • A lot I don't remember most tbh.
    Runescape
    WoW
    Riders of Icarus
    DDO
    TERA
    ESO
Some others in there too but I can't remember em right now...

EverQuest, City of Heroes, EverQuest II, Rift, WoW, Star Trek Online, Star Wars: TOR, Eve, LoTRO, Wildstar

Not necessarily in that order, although EQ was my first love.  Long enough ago that I still have the yellow install disk with 989 Studios on it.
  • Probably too many to name. I try nearly every new mmo (unless it's purely a pvp mmo with relatively no pve, then I don't). What can I say, I'm a junky!

I have played so many mmos I lost track of most of them but the ones I remember are as follows:
    - Aika
    -Perfect World
    - Forsaken World,
    - Vindictus
    -Lineage II
    -Aion
    -Allods
    -Cabal 2
    -GW2
    - Blade and Soul
    - Prius Online
    -Luna Online (my first game)
    -FF14
    -Rift
    -Tera
    -C9
and the list goes on. In any case, I was actually considered to be what's known as a "game hopper" I really did not stay around for very long.
Wow! The better question is, what MMORPG's haven't you played :flushed:
  • In chronological order.
    1. Darkages
    2. Ultima online
    3. Everquest
    4. Anarchy online
    5. A sprinkle of asheron's call
    6. Back to Ultima Online
    7. Star wars galaxies
    8. Everquest 2
    9. Matrix online
This point on I can't remember the chronological order.

    4. City of heroes, villains
    5. Champions online
    6. Secret world

    10. Guild wars
    11. Dungeons and dragons online
    12. Neverwinter
    13. Wildstar
    14. Lord of the rings online
Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. Anarchy online was where I reeeeally started to learn to optimize my characters and actively interact with guilds etc.

The earlier few attempts were just random exploration, with occasional grouping etc.

Started with the big MMOs, altho I heard too many gank stories about OU, so first MMO was Everquest.  Played through most not all, EQ, WoW, DAoC, EnB, SWG, Lineage II, EQII, DDO, LoTRO. Last played thru ESO and it was fun, including pvp up until they nerfed the respawn tents.  Since then I have moved over to playing ARK SE, which is a UE based sandbox survival game.  From all the preview videos, it may be a very familiar place, and it may fully support VR by then.  ARK SE has it in place for 2 of the 3 platforms now iirc.

Haha. I really like mmos. Oh I played a few months of rift as well.
  • Pre cata WoW, Tabula Rasa, Warhammer Online, ESO 1st month, GW2 currently but bored : are worthy of mention.
revisiting LOTRO now for something different.
  • SWTOR -> TSW -> DP -> NWO -> ESO -> SWTOR -> WOW -> ESO/SWTOR/TSW
  • Way to many to list really I have been playing online since the mid 90's with various Muds and BB RP's up to today.  From 00-08 I was a freelance QA tester for SOE with a dash of most other company's also thrown in between source contracts.

Everquest will always be my hallmark MMO though, so much so that I am currently playing on Agnar.
  • Because I can't remember anything, these will be in no particular order:
    • WoW for 8 years
    • SWG
    • TOR
    • ESO
    • FFXIV
    • FFXI
    • Rift
    • Tera
    • Aion
    • LotRO
    • GW2
    • GW
    • City of Heroes/Villains
    • Blade and Soul
    • Wildstar
    • Skyforge
    • Archage
    • BDO
    • Aura Kingdom

And tons and tons of lesser mmos.
  • I've been playing MMORPGs for almost 19 years now.

Other than that I'm also an avid Xbox gamer and have worked in the game industry with Ubisoft as a Level Designer and Scripter.

Here are some of the bigger MMORPGs that I've played:

    • Ultimate Online
    • Everquest
    • Anarchy Online
    • Asheron's Call 2
    • Star Wars Galaxies (by far the best MMORPG I've experienced to date)
    • Final Fantasy XI
    • Everquest 2
    • World of Warcraft
    • Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
    • The Lord of the Rings Online
    • Pirates of the Burning Sea
    • Age of Conan
    • RIFT
    • Star Wars The Old Republic
    • Guild Wars 2
    • ArcheAge
    • Elder Scrolls Online
    • Neverwinter

  • I'm noticing a lot of LOTRO players have found there way here. Is that because of some commonalities shared between Ashes and LOTRO?

Hmmm. Not particularly, it's a popular fantasy archive. It's very theme parky but I thought the story quests were fantastic.

And you can wield a sword and staff as a lore master (fake gandalf). Woo-hoo.

I guess you might see a lot of it because it's still around and f2p.

As @AutumnWillow mentioned, there aren't many major shared commodities between LOTRO and AoC that I can relate to now.

AoC is probably closer to ArcheAge or Star Wars Galaxies in terms of actual physical in-world/node housing. Crafting and gathering could take some references from SWG as quite a number of the AoC team previously worked in SOE and on SWG.
  • @SpectoRz
Looking back on it, SOE had quite the impressive lineup back in the day. I guess all the more reason why EQ Next was such a heartbreaker. I don't know enough about Daybreak to fairly comment on their ways but they definitely didn't seem to handle Landmark and any EQ-related PR that well. But, I digress. I don't want to derail into discussing corporate management.

If Intrepid could snag all other available former SOE production team members, I'd be elated  :D
