What is your MMO longevity?

  • Most of it is Everquest 2 but the RNG and pay to dominate / keep up with people who pay extra on top of the subscription is getting ridiculous. I have high hopes for Ashes ...
  • 10+ years only if you count short breaks from playing.

Most playtime on same MMO "in one go" is 6 years.
  • Have technically "played" wow since release although that had plenty of small periods where they got my subscription fee for free.
Lineage 2 I played for a few interrupted years but never really paid much attention to time back then, was having too much fun :)
Other mmos were mostly only played to see if I could re-find the enjoyment I had at the start of Lineage 2..... so far I'm still looking but with a bit of luck and some hard working developers I'm hoping that quest is over :)

  • I played some really unknown Korean MMO called Nostale for just over 4 years and I've been playing Guild Wars 2 for about 4 years as well.
  • Mortal online an indie game make out of Sweden
  • I've been playing WoW (on and off) since 2007, so it's been a long ten years. Runescape, however, was my first foray into the MMO world :)

Is this solid time or do we count 2 yrs with a year break the another 2yrs as 4yrs or only 2?
@Karthos If you took a year off I would just take a year out of the number, but explain it in your post.

DAoC still wins but ESO is a close second at about 3 years (counting from beta B) )

If you stay with ESO until Ashes launch that's going to be your new #1  we can then induct you into the 5 year+ club! @PlagueMonk
  • Still playing WoW Since BC and a bit before it... It is time for me to move on to something bigger :3

I'll be close with eso to the 5 year club at that point

Yeah, no I've been contemplating it. Unless I get a some crazy early invite to alpha/beta it is gonna be 3 years. I have also been holding out hope CU will be close but they continue to push things back (which is NOT a bad thing......I would rather they release when it's ready rather than half baked)

Played conquer online for about 7 or so years starting in beta. Within the last 4 or 5 years. About 1-2 weeks, bdo tops it at 2 months.
  • Started MMO'ing in August 1999 and my record was 6 years before LOTRO. Played that since launch. I'm rather single minded when it comes to games and characters in the games. Tend to play 1 game and 1 character and I'm probably one of the few MMO'ers since 99 that can say they've never owned a WoW account. ;)
  • Should have had a 20+ option, I started with text based MUDs in the very early 1990's on dial-up services like Prodigy, Genie and AOL.

@Kratz I applaud you, I see WoW as helping the regression of MMO as what it is now (a solo "I want it now" millennial game) compared to what it was was originally, a game designed to appeal to westerners with strong eastern mmo influences yet no direct link (ie. it wasn't an eastern grind that was semi tamed and resold to another publisher for a western market).
@Mordencaine But do you still play them? The poll is asking how long you have played your longest mmo for. Thanks for bringing back the memories of the good old MUD days. I remember first getting given a promotional floppy disk that gave 30mins free "Internet" which was billed at something crazy like $4 a minute after that (so after my free trial I was back to bulletin board services until prices came down)
  • Dota 2 .... xD even though it's a moba it's my only game I did play more than 2 months :D
  • Hmm I started playing wow when it first came out.

I tried wow on a private server, played for like 15 mins and said nope. Thats how much i like tab targeting. So technically ive never owned a wow account either. Been mmo since about the same time. Tibia and runescape.

Oh right, oddly enough I do still play a MUD called Gemstone IV by Simutronics that has been going since 1989, I started playing it around 1991. It's a game that had talked about becoming a video game some years back, but the project flopped. I wish they would give it another try now days. I would not hesitate to drop at least $1000 to support that kickstarter. But, c'est la vie, it's not likely to happen. So, I throw my support behind Ashes.
  • An MMO? never heard of it stop bugging me... *walks away*

For serious now I'd say pretty long I have a couple that I'd put at 10+ years but that's on and off play. When things get stale for me I typically drop out for a lil bit then come back. Sadly if something really pulls my interest I tend to run that "fanatical researcher" persona for a while lol.

Tends to lend me to not having much that I don't know in a shorter time period than most players.
  • 3-4 years. Well I spent a lot of time in DAoC but I did try new games while still playing it. I think I May have played Rift and SWTOR the longest after that for about 2.5 years. The community in in played the biggest part of those games longevity for me.
  • Wow over 10+ years
  • d&d online got for 3 years, i loved my guild. they kept in it for a good 2 years just for them
  • I first started playing EQ in October 2001 with some real life friends. So far I've paid for 11 years, 258 days. By no means substantial compared to most that started when I did. But I log in and play a little almost every day.

I also ran a server for Neverwinter Nights, and hosted a lot of X-Wing VS TIE Fighter games because I had the network to handle it and I loved that game when it was in sync and working correctly -- sadly not doable every day.

I didn't like WoW and only played it for about 30 minutes total when it first came out. I loved the LAN version of WarCraft(1996 I think).

The other's I've tried weren't memorable enough to recall their names.
  • @Kratz I never played Wow either, I just saw the game play and was extremely unimpressed
  • I will have my 9 year anniversary in Eve Online in a couple months.  I have taken a couple breaks from the game but always kept my account and training active.  I consider Eve more a hobby than a game and will probably play until the day they unplug it.  There is no other game out ever that can compete with Eve on any level.  But this one may have a chance.  If they can make the universe any where near the size of the Eve universe.
  • Picked the 9-10 years because that's how long i have been with Lineage2 which i really used to enjoy to play, but i left that game, due to heavy pay2win and also the community thinned a lot.
I wasn't able to find another mmo i would enjoy as much as L2 so far, so after leaving L2 i am not able to stick to a mmo for more then 2 years.
  • Well...I was off and on with WoW from just before Wrath launch until here recently.
Sadly, I only spent that much time there because that's where all my friends were
