The day you said that a literal water tank made sense cause its a metal shell encapsulating a body of water instead of flesh and that's why Verrans would end up calling people in armor "tanks" is the day I stopped taking you seriously.
Plus, Steven already said he's gonna change the archetype's name in a recent interview so yeah, WE HAVE WON.
This beautiful thread is over. We claim victory.
Personally? Guardian, Vanguard or Defender seem like better suited names for this sort of class, but I support the notion of changing it either way.
Well first, tanks don't shoot artillery shells.

My 5e Artillerist Artificer would like to have a word with you. He makes Fireball look friendly.
The class mechanic is an in game system, it is more like the term "hit points" than it is like a mobs name, or a node name.
As you will probably be able to find, the vast majority of people "for" the name tank aren't as much for it as we are aware that it *really* doesn't matter.
Most of this thread is taking the piss out of people that are so put off by the game calling the class the same thing players are going to call the class - because it is so utterly ridiculous.
It is like naming the fighter Melee DPS
We've been able to make the assumption that summoners will be able to be a weaker version of most classes for a few years now. Their place in the game is said to be a "jack-of-all-trades", so that would mean they need to be able to tank a little, heal a little, DPS a little and buff a little.
The assumption many of us have made is that they will manage some of this change in roles via changing their pet, but most of it will come from their secondary class. This then opens up the notion of needing to be able to alter their secondary class on the fly, as a jack-of-all-trades that is bound to just one role is just a shitty version of that role
