  • The jumping puzzles will be in the deep ocean, from ship to ship. 🏴‍☠️

  • Hard disagree.

Jumping puzzles are one of my favorite things, the more challenging the better.

now I wish for a 40 man raid jump puzzle, if ONE PERSON fucks up, everyone falls and restarts again.

This would be beautiful for a Raid legendary level.
Honestly I can see it, instead of hurting the boss with skills the damage would come from completing parts of the puzzle, if someone does not complete their part of the puzzle correctly then it would not get enough damage to kill the Boss.

Now I hope AoC has a huge tower with 1 boss at the top and the only way to get there is, JUMP KINGing your way to the top.

Make it a 40 person raid and we have a deal.

With player collision turned on. And a time limit.

I mean, this sounds harsh, but honestly some of the most rewarding gameplay I've experienced has been this hardcore. In Eve, you had bomber groups that had to perfectly coordinate their jumpins, warps, decloak and bomb drop. If you didn't do it perfectly you'd either get slaughtered by your enemies, blow yourself up with your own bombs, or just have all your bombs blow eachother up without doing any damage. Only the best Fleet Commanders (I see you Mr. Vee) with a very disciplined group could pull it off, but when you did it was absolutely devastating (like killing dozens of ships with a group of 10 bombers). I think this is part of the ongoing allure of high-end raids in WoW, and other content. I hope AoC at least provides the tools to create this kind of content.

p.s. they eventually changed the mechanics for how bombers worked to not require this level of coordination, and it felt like a loss.

Big NO from me as well, I don't mind them for some obscure exploration quest that is never required for anything, but never for anything remotely mandatory.

THERE he is - the guy whose beaten me to the punch, posting about something that the thread-resurrector clearly did NOT bother to check the wiki for, before-hand.

I'm looking at you, @Arya_Yeshe. This is far from the first topic wherein I've noticed that you just aren't checking for an answer for, ahead of asking.

    How so? #confused

I already knew AoC will have jumping puzzles, I am just highlining the fact that GW2 jumping puzzles are amazing and I am not even a jumping puzzles lover

If you were fortunate enough, like me, for playing some JP in GW2 then you know what I mean, their JP over there are wonderful and I was a full time pvper who didn't even complete the pve quests
PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.
  • I’d rather see solo arenas like they have in Elder Scrolls Online. They could be solo adventures that have some jumping puzzles in it but combat as well. With all the different classes though I doubt some would be able to make it through.

I would love to see a dungeon with regular group content, but also areas where it splits the party up and forces solo content, like 5 paths or puzzles that have to be done simultaneously.

SWTOR had something like this in one of it's Raids. there were 8 Elite Mobs that you had to fight, but once you did damage to one no one else could hurt it other than one attack so it was fun pairing off with your elite and doing solo content in the raid setting.
  • I would like to see shortcuts between surface and the underrealm as average diificulty jumping puzzles.
Maybe with path altering features, where either players could block others who chase them or seasons would make them harder or completely inaccessible.

No reason for them to not exist. GW2 did a great job with these, so did FFXIV.

I enjoy them, but I also get sick of them. Those two games make it non mandatory, its just something you can do when I the mood.

Some cosmetic type rewards would be totally fine.

Jump puzzles are great, I don't think they need to be tied to competitive play but small rewards like exploration achievements are fun. Not every bit of gameplay needs to be for everyone, you don't like jump puzzles , great don't do them. I like jump puzzles I will.

I don't mind jumping puzzles if they are not tied to a raid, or to progression. If they are not mandatory. Perhaps tied to obtaining some special item is ok. Yes, I will admit that my dislike of them is 90% due to being really, really bad at it. The rest is that are tedious.
  • Very interesting topic! I wasn't expecting to read this on the forums today, lol.

Personally, I love jumping puzzles in MMORPG. I totally understand the sentiment of how they can be clunky in some games. We aim to ensure the terrain obstacles in Ashes of Creation will make sense as well as be fun to encounter :)

Like others here I have played GW2 and enjoyed most aspects of it. However, I really disliked the number of jumping puzzles and how many of them were intrinsic to the game. I largely avoided fractuals because so many had a jumping puzzle aspect. I found the jumping puzzles very stressful in group play, as I was very poor at them and felt that my regular failures meant I was holding the group up. It really put me off getting involved in groups if I knew a jumping puzzle might be involved. I don't mind if there are some in AoC but I am hoping they won't have the prominent place they have in GW2.
  • The only thing I dislike in jumping puzzles is when it is not clear if the surface is real or you will fall through.
I am undecided about vertical walls where you can jump through and land into secret passages. You cannnot see them and only the most determined would climb and jump toward surfaces to test their collisions. I am not one of them unless it is a know thing to happen. Maybe the game could have such intermittent secret shortcuts.
