• Well I'm hoping that "corruption" at least sicks guards on you in towns.
•
Large battles are PVP, so that does not count because everyone in the battle/siege is Purple; same goes for caravans, arenas, other battlegrounds.

You are talking about attacking Greens, who are off doing their own thing, and NO, flagging doesn’t automatically happen when you attack, flagging Purple only happens if the Green attacks back in self defense. You are forcing yourself on another person, if this was sexual, it would be ****. That’s how PvE people feel.
I wasn't talking about siege size PvP events.
I'm talking like 20-30 people surrounded by a bunch of non-combatants.
Or a brawl starting up in a tavern.

The rules are in play because fights will be popping up where avatars are surrounded by people who are potential threats and it's not wise to assume that those non-combatants won't attack you just because they haven't flagged yet.

I been trying to avoid using the R-word all week!!!!
I understand. And that's why PvE's need a separate server... because they won't agree with PvPers on ethics.

On the normal servers, it is honorable to attack non-combatants in order to initiate combat. It is dishonorable to kill a non-combatant. That will be the majority view.
It might be chivalrous to verbally ask for consent, but that is going to be rare.
And then, I guess you gotta feel however you feel about that.
Don't shoot the messenger, please. You speakin' to the choir.

There are three states that a player can find themselves in: Non-Combatant (Green), Combatant (Purple), and Corrupt (Red). Everyone is a Non-Combatant by default. If a Non-Combatant attacks a Combatant or another non-combatant, then they become a Combatant for a period of time. Similarly, if a Non-Combatant enters a PVP zone (which includes things like Castles, City Sieges and Caravans) they are automatically flagged a Combatant while in the zone, and for a period of time after leaving that zone.

Players can kill Combatants without repercussions, and are encouraged to do so, since dying while a Combatant means you suffer reduced death penalties. Where this changes is when a Combatant kills a Non-Combatant. In this case, the Combatant is Corrupt, and acquires a Corruption Score (which is accrued based on a number of different parameters, including the level differential of their freshly slain victim). This Corruption Score can be worked off with effort through a few mechanics, but the primary means of getting rid of it is through death.

If someone attacks you and you do nothing, that is the indicator that you don't give consent. And the mechanics back that up because the attacker only gets a corruption score if the attacker kills you anyway. Which is why you don't autoflag purple when you get attacked. Someone who kills you when you have not consented to combat by fighting becomes corrupted.

If you attack back, both of you will be flagged purple. And whichever one of you dies will only suffer half the normal death penalties.
Because that is an honorable fight. If it was dishonorable to attack a non-combatant then the attacker would receive the corruption score merely for attacking the non-combatant. Instead of both being rewarded by halving the death penalties.
Those are the rules of engagement on this world..
• You know, honor to a PvPer, as you define it, is just an excuse to gank. Forcing people is only fun for the forcee, not the victim. It's only FUN if both parties enjoy the activity. I doubt you will ever truly understand, and so I am going to let this go.
• Attacking a non-combatant does not force the victim into PvP combat. The victim can choose not to engage.
And then the attacker has the option of stopping if the victim does not fight back. The attacker is not penalized if he doesn't kill the non-combatant. So, stopping the attack is the honorable thing to do.
If it were dishonorable merely to attack a non-combatant, then the attacker would immediately become corrupt.

This is one way we know the game is designed by a PvP combat lover.
The other way we know is by the refusal to offer even one PvE-only server.
So, yes, you gotta deal with that bias if you want to play this game.
Challenging as that may be.
• I will also like to add that corruption might not work out as intended , it needs to be tested in alpha and beta. A flagging system like what star wars galaxies had could be better for the game.

I think Quisari really wants to be a purple bandit. He was just confused by the new mechanics.

I hope so! If that’s the fact, then I’m done, and @quisari? I hope you enjoy playing the game … hopefully the purple combat will excite and titillate you!

Also, thank you, @dygz, for making this point.

Yup ^^ just stay flagged all day everyday as rogue in stealth.
watch your back everyone since if you turn purple the den of thieves Will be right behind it:p

Yea we have to See how it works ^^ but i do Hope they either give a reason for combat effectiveness reduction or Something xb lore wise:)

This is the key right here. Test it report exploits and the system will work far better.
• That's what religions are for.
•
That’s what religions are for.

Hope that they have Some kinda dark religion :p like a religion Where you sacrifice shit to and gives out daily quests to kill players :p
XD might have Some mental issues:D
• So this PVP will be like BDO?
I can grief people into turning red/losing gear?
Die... revive run back in and die again.. sounds....... GREAT. .. oh wait.. no it doesn't :)

Well if you mean karma/corruption bomb people.. Yea i guess you could do that but that depends on the system... if I fx jump you and burn your health down to 5% and you dont fight back then I Will either have to stop doing dmg and just say meh or kill you and face the bounty hunters/penalties for doing so ^^
If they kill you, they have accepted the penalty of risking their gear and exp for just a few kills ^^
Though i do want pure owpvp Where everyone is perma flagged :) but we Will never get that untill they dont care about pve bunnies crying ^^
•
So, if @slsteele‘s take on non-combatants getting locked when attacked is correct, the best way to win a siege is to have the local militia rush into battle waving their weapons and when the enemy hits the stop and say, ““Hey, hope you’re havin’ a great day, I’m not interested in fighting you!”
Then laugh at all them corrupted.
Ooohhhh how underhanded. I like it!
