Now that I think of it...

They are allowing metropolis leaders/politicians to be elected by the members of that metropolis. So why not do something similar for the religions?

On each server, one person could be the incarnate for each religion - kinda like the pope for that religion. Perhaps they could be chosen based on participation in events/activities for that religious order, and act as a champion for that order.
The leader of the Divine Metropolis will be the de facto Pope of the server.

Since there are 4 node types and 5 total Metropolises per server, that measn we can have at least one duplicate type of Metropolis.
So 2 Divine Metropolises should be possible. Technically, 5 Divine Metropolises on one server is possible.

Also, in addition to the Metropolises, there will also be Divine cities, towns and villages - each with their own leaders.

So, we should see that (even though it's really just one religion - that one religion has a pantheon). Each god will likely have a city, town and/or village with a leader who is basically like a bishop.
  • Oh yeah! Divine cities! I forgot that nodes can have different focuses/foci as well. It really sounds interesting to see how different servers pan out when the game launches.

    I have a pope hat already ^^

Religion in Ashes is like a social organization with a pantheon of 10 gods and there is horizontal progression in each.  When a Divine node is being developed, the god of the participating people will determine to which god the temple will be dedicated.

Do you think the number of social organizations a player can participate in will be limited? That is will they need to make a choice? Having a religion is more interesting if choices need to be made, not between which gods, but whether to serve a god or not and become a part of that social organization. I like the idea that players would have to make choices among options.
We can only belong to one social organization.
But, the social organizations are separate from the Religion progression path.
I was expecting the Religion progression path to mean being devoted to only one god, but... I don't recall that being stated by the devs.

Again, technically it's one religion with many gods. So, it might be possible to be devoted to all of the gods, in such a way that we it's possible to gain ranks with many gods, but higher ranks if we just focus on one god.

We'll have to see if we can get dev confirmation.

Following a deity should be tied to a choice that means giving something else up. If the choices are "which deity provides the best buffs for my class" then it just becomes a non-optional grind path like Nan brought up in the OP. We'll have to see how that is detailed.
  • There is a Religion progression path.
Much like the Artisan progression path and the Social progression path and the Naval progression path.

If you consider progression paths to be non-optional grinds....Okaaaay???

                                                I don't "node" about that!
  • I don't know if one could be a member of each organization or if they are mutually exclusive.  I think it would be hard to try to carry out missions of so many but not impossible.  Sort of like crafting...you can do it all, but not at master levels.

Did someone say your religion level will affect your crafting options? Because that's ALL I heard. (Gonna craft me some Mace +5 vs. @nagash followers undeads)

Also, don't forget - we must have (unlockable) titles.

Right. Might be able to follow multiple gods but not at master ranks.
  • Better start practicing the "duck and hide no ones home" technique. You know there's gonna be like 3 of you going door to door trying to recruit us into your religion  :D Can I get a witness?

    FADE IN:

AUTUMNWILLOW stands outside of a house belonging to WELPHGRYN. She knocks on the door 3 times.

    WELPHGRYN opens the door

    WELPHGRYN
    Hi can I help you?

    AUTUMNWILLOW
Hello, I'd like share with you more about Melodia, and how, through music, Melodia can help make you a better person.

    WELPHGRYN
Wait. We have a god of music called Melodia?

    AUTUMNWILLOW
God? Oh no, God isn't central to our beliefs. We're non-Theistic.

    DYGZ enters the scene.
There's no such thing as a non-theist in the world of Ashes because the gods actually exist and undeniably impact the world.

AUTUMNWILLOW and DYGZ continues to debate

WELPGRYN gently closes the door and returns to whatever he was doing.

Camera pulls away as AUTUMNWILLOW and DYGZ continues to argue as the sun sets in the distance

    END SCENE.
