An apt description for discord as a whole is it not ;)

You're right. As I reside in NA I will take a back seat on this conversation. Hopefully Intrepid and the EU community come together on the issue.
  • Wait and see what happens. At this point I am fully vested in the game. I will keep my fingers crossed

I guess I have to go research my.com/my.ru, now.

Sad to see so many people upset about this publisher. My fingers are crossed because I want this game to be enjoyed by all that want to play.
  • I rather wait a little bit longer so they can publish the game themselves than to have my.com as a publisher..

If my.com/mail.ru has that bad of a reputation for publishing, I'm surprised they went with them after he knows what a bad publisher does to a game, like an unnamed south korean game here in NA and EU... but there is other problems with that game, not just a bad publisher.
  • I'm worried that this decision will disaffect so many players, that the population will plummet.  I understand the concerns of my fellow EU players. I hope that a better solution will be presented in the near future.
  • To be honest, if they didn't do any contract with the guys from my.com yet, they should give up that idea already, me and certainly alot of ppl from EU would rather see the release date of the game being later compared to the USA one. And again I think if Steven and the rest of the staff really cares about this game and its community they better change this situation. Thats my opinion at least
  • @Dygz From what a quick google search provides:

    1. They routinely sell your personal information, or it gets hacked and stolen
    2. They have scam/malware baked into their products, or redirect you to sites that do
    3. They have poor service connections & outages
    4. They routinely overcharge and refuse to refund
    5. They routinely ban your accounts if you complain, or try to bring attention to them
    6. They region lock and add additional charges to various fees/subs
    7. They've created a monopolistic hold of regions with certain games, so that players have no choice.
    8. They will be using their own launcher for Ashes in the EU (according to Steven in Discord).
    9. They will be handling billing for Ashes in the EU

I'm reserving any judgement until I hear the details of the arrangement.

What is the extent of the publishers' involvement in the project. What can they do to alter the game? Do they have any influence on what appears in the cash shop? Will they handle customer support?

There are a lot of questions that I would need answers to before I can even hope to make an informed decision.

I appreciate the concerns that people have about the publishers, but can we please calm down and let the details circulate before we form a lynch mob?
  • I really hope Steven is going to change his mind on this decision, I don't understand why Steven didn't ask the community for advice before doing anything. I have an extremely tough time to keep myself positive for the future of Ashes, I hope for some better news soon.

I am from NA, Will not be supporting this game at any point if they go through with the my.com partership.

They ruined Revelation Online, Skyforge, Warface, and  Armored Warfare.

I had high hopes for this game, but I will not for a single second support any game that chooses to work with them. Please reconsider.

Publishers, in general, don't usually have that great of a reputation. However it sounds like going with My.com was the best business decision Steven could find. It appears to have been a decision that was financially sound, allowed Intrepid the amount of flexibility they wanted and also didn't interfere with the intended launch plan.

I think people are overreacting pretty hard. Sure, I get that you might not like My.com but we haven't even seen anything yet. People are jumping to the worst conclusions and allowing their imaginations to run wild.
I translated it through an interpreter. You did not deal with mail.ru (who are the owners my.com). These are greedy people, with terrible service, promises that do not seek to fulfill. They were given many chances. In the first few months (1-4) all like normal, but then the service begins to fall, and the game becomes P2W. In Russia, a lot of people who are essentially not playing the game that "lead" mail.ru.
  • Perhaps the issue is, with international business dealings in places like Russia, what recourse does Steve have if they don't fulfill their part of the contract?

Seems like they can just slink back into Russia and laugh from afar at any contracts.  I'd bet that the Russkie government is making enough money from them to look the other way as well.
  • Having slept since the bombshell hit yesterday, I can honestly say my position on this matter has intensified.
I am still in absolute shock from the news provided - by a 3rd party source to boot!

Before yesterday, we were all still of the opinion that AoC was still being self-published worldwide. Sure, it wasn't guaranteed and we knew there might be hurdles to overcome as each region has different rules and regulations, but nothing insurmountable.

Now, a mere month before A1, it is revealed that this decision has been in the works since May - and all I can think is if such a massive aspect of the project is kept hush for so long, what else is being 'considered' - so much for transparency!
And yes, while I do appreciate that this is Intrepids decision, it impacts each and every player who resides in the affected regions; this alone makes it very not ok.

There is absolutely zero possibility of me agreeing to share my personal data with My.com
Their proven track record when dealing with situations like hacks, wrongful bans, unauthorised transactions, poor server service, atrocious customer service, to name just a few, speaks volumes for itself and no amount of sugar-coated wordsmithing will change the fact that these are the very services Intrepid will have them perform!...I do not trust them, it's simply not going to happen.

Yes, I am upset. I was so hyped for A1 next month, and now, unless I can VPN to the USA (and suffer the issues that go with that method of access), I will not be participating.

To all those who are saying "Just wait and see, it might be ok - this time" ... I would say "No, I will not wait, it will be far too late by then."

I had to vent this, I don't feel better for it & now I have to go to work.
  • Let's hope the lag wont be too bad in US, those guys have a bad rep for a reason and it wont change overnight :3
  • Name just 1 game my.com hasn't turned into shit. I dare you, I double dare you!
  • Now we know where the 30M budget came from......
  • So disappointed in Steven. All the talk of no p2w and he gives money to possibly the worst of the worst. I don’t believe Intrepid will allow p2w but to continue to feed money on a horrible company that has put MMOs in the state they are in is hypocritical.
  • I don't post much here, perhaps wrongly, but I can't stay silent about it.
I'm not attracted to any MMO right now, I'm waiting for AoC.
I took part in the Kickstarter campaign but the announcement of the partnership with My.com strongly displeases me. I am in France and therefore I am concerned.
If this partnership confirms, it will most likely be without me, I would have lost money because I can't imagine Intrepid Studio making a refund but I can't endorse the use of my.com as a distributor in Europe.
    I trust Intrepid Studio but I don't trust My.com.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong but My.com will have to prove itself.

  • I love malware so I'm really happy about this decision. Also I don't like to be able to connect to servers that I'm paying to play on. My.com is the dream. I have contacted costumer support to tell them how happy I am about this deal they made, and expect an answer in only 2 to 3 months.

    That is really sad. 😢

  • If any of this is true then Steve needs to ask some very pointed, well-informed questions;

    (from riaschissl - brave adventures in technology);

my.com “MyMail” disaster: when security and privacy become marketing gags

    "In other words:

Anybody with access to those Russian based servers has access to every detail of your mailbox. Unfortunately, in our post-Snowden world, this is not paranoid, but completely expected.

Anybody, with extremely trivial means, can gain access to your account credentials because they are sent in plain text over unencrypted channels.

Anybody, with extremely trivial means, can gain access to your emails’ content, because like the credentials, it is send in plain over unencrypted channels."

    ---

Has the company addressed and fixed these email issues?

Is this indicative of the group has a whole? Are there systems in place that prevent customer data, whether it be email or player data, from being stolen or misused?

Are these systems robust and industry standard in their levels of security?

    How transparent is the company?

    • Does the company allow an outside auditor to review the company's policy, procedures, and day-to-day operations?
    • If there are negative observations does the company accept the findings and put into practice procedures that will mitigate future problems?

How dependent is the company on government largess? Does continued operation largely depend on keeping the bureaucracy well greased?

Russian-American billionaire and entrepreneur Yuri Milner, founder of Mail.Ru and DST Global, has befriended Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and is a business associate of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law.

    • Are connections like this the norm, cost-of-doing-business, etc., when signing contracts with multi-national corporations?
    v/r,

This is getting shadier and shadier. And I'm not sure if this won't affect non eu players as well.
  • This is getting shadier and shadier. And I'm not sure if this won't affect non eu players as well.
Of course it will affect non EU players. If you have a developer (Intrepid Studios) sign a contract with one of the most hated publishers in EU (my.com) that stands for everything the developer have repeatedly said they are against (pay to win, cash grabbing, you know all those words about being burn, broken promises) you'll have three things happening.

    1. People lose trust in the developer
    2. It will turn potential and current players away from the game
    3. 2 will result in less revenue for the game and less development funds for future content.

Hence you get a worse game!!

The fact that the publisher is also known for horrible server stability, account hacks, security breaches and questionable customer service standards. Yeah and then the CEO asks us to trust the company he picked for us with our initial trust.
  • I'm US based for now but I am about to move to the EU for grad school and wanted to play on EU servers just for ease of grouping on none down times etc. This announcement has definitely negatively effected my hype for the game. I guess I'll just play on NA servers if I can. Steven really needs to explain this fully.

But will you be able to play from EU on NA servers if they are region locked? You could VPN but that would destroy your ping times.
